I've been debating getting an Xbox One or a new PC and I'm now leaning to a new PC and I found this spec for £800. It all looks good to me but i've been out of the PC loop for a while so am unsure of what is advisable to get and what isn't. Does it look like a good build? Also should I get Windows 7 over Windows 8, even if I'm able to upgrade to Windows 9 for free. I really didn't like Win8 to be honest.

Thanks.

It's an alternative.

Better motherboard and PSU, and if primary purpose is gaming (?), the CPU can be overclocked for better performance. A mild overclock is pretty simple to set. The i7 would be preferable for photo/video editing etc.

The RAM is faster too (and 1866MHz on a B85 board would run at 1600). Does it matter too much? No, except with some apps/tasks. But it's always nicer to have it for those occasions.

Your spec doesn't say which GTX 970 it is exactly, unless it's a reference Nvidia 970, so they can't be compared. However, the Zotac comes with a 5-year warranty.

That being said, what you posted seems very good for the money, even if it cuts a few corners here and there and isn't too well-balanced, especially with build and warranty included. Just depends on your needs/preferences.

Including an SSD would be nice as it makes a huge difference in some departments.

Hmm interesting, thanks for that. I did want to have an SSD drive but might save that for a later date and finding out what GTX 970 is definitely something i was going to do. Can overclockers completely put together a system for you if you buy the single components?

I think I may go with the suggested components above so thanks a lot for that RJC. Before I do I just want to ask if I may need anything else such as extra fans for cooling? Or despite that one looking fine a better case (for a reasonable price still)? Or a different version of the 970?

Any opinions would be appreciated!

No probs :)

For some reason I chose a DVD ROM rather than a RW so swop the drive to the one below:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CD-003-OK&groupid=701&catid=10&subcat=951

The case comes with 2 fans pre installed so I would see how you get on and check temps, you can always add more fans later if needed.

GPU are pretty much all similar the Zotac comes with 5 years warranty and keeps you with in a reasonable budget.

Cheers mate, I've changed the drive to that one now :)

So basically, after a little research and tinkering my build has changed quite a bit. I have a really bad mindset when it comes to buying technology like this, and that's that I always think, if I'm spending £700, I may as well spend £800, but if I'm now happy with spending £800, I may as well get a bit better and spend £900. Is a bad habit! Anyway here it is, it comes at about £1100 or so in the end :(

Only thing is I've had a few people telling me to get a 750w PSU but I don't plan on adding a secondary graphics card any time soon, with that in mind is a 750w PSU really needed? And what's the general thought on this build?

Yeah that cooler is pretty poor. The themis is a better choice for the same money.

I'd get a USB wireless adapter if I were you.

And go with stulids suggestion..

PCI-E sound card will be better.

Horrible looking cooler.

Cheers, have picked out a PCI-E sound care and a wireless adapter. Yea someone from Overclockers support recommended that cooler to me over the one I previously had, saying that the Raijintek one was held by rubber screws which aren't great for holding the fan. Looking at the Raijintek one though it has good reviews and has a few awards so I'm not sure it is a bad choice....
