No 1 - My brother died last October
No 2 -I need to get him taken off my will and a cousin put in his place.
No 3 - I rang solicitor for a appointment.
No 4 next day I got a letter.
No 5-Opened the letter and it seems they want all my details -Inside leg-bum size- how many teeth do i have. Do I still have two arms and legs -
And so it goes on.
They also want proof of name and address. None of it over three months old - Council tax renewal -driving licence - (sorted they want the paper bit)
Electric -water- gas - or any sort of bill with name and address on.
What year are they living in - I havent had a paper bill for years - everything is on line -A copy of a online bill will not count.
I am writing this because it's wound me up but I have calmed down now - is there anyone who knows what I could use in place of these options.
We are both old codgers in our 70/80s and we have just the basics as above -Council tax/water/electric /bank account -all online and paperless.
Can't the solicitors just put us in a search and come up with all our details.

Why do these sort of things come out of the woodwork when you don't need them.

Go online, click the button so you're not paperless, receive next bill / account information in paper form, then log back online and click paperless again. Alternatively speak to someone at your solicitors to see if there's something they can do and accept an online PDF version instead?

You don’t need to go in to see a solicitor. You certainly don’t need to prove your identity, bills and all this palaver.

There are online will writing services where you basically write it yourself and it’s then checked by a solicitor.

The new will makes any previous ones invalid.

We already have the will and all solicitor expenses come out of the will - The wife and I are last in our line so most of it is going to charity and solicitor.

Like others have said, do it all online. I did mine a year or two ago. Nothing complicated, everything goes to my partner, if we both die our son, if all three die then a chosen charity. I think I did it via the CO-OP or a charity where you make a small donation, something like £20 and you fill in a few fields online and boom it generates a will that you then sign. Was dead easy, then registered it with HM Courts & Tribunals in Newcastle. Again dead easy.

If you think that is the frustrating bit - wait until they ask you to go in and sign the amendments - 3 mins maximum - and as an example - we got charged £200 for the priviledge.

This a absolutely normal with any kind of check on your personal details I have to go through this nonsense every year or so for work just to prove I have the right to live in this country/exist.

I've been through this palaver at least 4 times in the last year - incl. 3 times with the same law firm as I've had different people dealing with different issues and they all insist on verification. Its so tedious

What a day -Got to the car park up road from solicitors and found we had left all paperwork at home -Race back -ring to see if we can be 30min late -no problem - Got in room and found I still had driving glasses on so I couldn't see and she talked quietly so hearing aids had job picking up her voice. Good job took wife along.
All it was the solicitors now need to verify every customer with ID so got load of bits of paper from files and said take your pick.
Other bit with changing who get's what went smooth and our will was free because a good portion of it goes to Air Ambulance.
Day ended well.
Bought some Lidl mini icecreams.
