Hi folks, I'm not too up in system building but have been specced this system specifically for FSX. I also want to run Dirt 2. Does this spec seem ok for it?

Is there anything else missing?

it would but youre spending money on dead tech (socket 775) you can get the newer i5 for same/less money
Swap out cpu/mobo and ram for these

Intel Core i5 750 2.66Ghz (Lynnfield) (Socket LGA1156) - OEM + Colin McRae Dirt 2 Full Game £139.99 (£121.73)
Asus P7P55D Intel P55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 Motherboard £114.99 (£99.99)
Geil Ultra Series 4GB (2x2GB) PC3-17000 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit (GU34GB2133C9DC) - OEM £69.99 (£60.86)

Also unless youre an avid NVidia fanboy you can get more for your money with ATI, I'd look at a 5770, 90% performance (approximation) of the 275 and half the money, with DX11
Rest of it looks solid

It's solid build but dated.

You should be looking at an i5 or an Phenom II x 4 build for that type of money - read this guide for some pointers - link.

I'm sure someone will be able to spec you up a system with the above in a matter of minutes...

EDIT: |Should have known 95Thriffles would beat me to it ;) (Good to see your guide has been made a sticky Thriffles.)

Should walk all over it :)

Only thing is you won't get the DX11 features, consider the 5850 maybe? Should pack more punch than the 275 and is only a little bit more :)

The problem with the 5770 is it's going to struggle to run dx11 games at a good enough standard, and it's not as fast as some of the older tech cards at a similar price point in non dx11 games. I'm sure most of us have already seen the Dirt 2 benchmarks in dx11 and the 5770 struggles badly tbh, especially at higher resolutions.

Having said that the GTX 275 the op is looking at is well overpriced and for just a few quid more you could buy yourself a 5850 (providing you're patient enough), which would be a far better purchase :)

I can run dirt 2 with a single 5770 with everything maxed out at 1650 and its very playable. Not got fps for you though although the rest of the system probably helps with an overclocked I5 at 3.6gig.

This is my recomendation, theres 2 5770's for crossfire and 2 hdd for raid, and ive added a dvdrw to the list as i asume you may need one

hyperst's spec is along the lines of what I'd go for. If it were me, I'd probably do without RAID and go for a Corsair HX 650W with a Samsung F3 instead.

Hi guys,

I have re-hashed the latest build slightly with different options including the 5850 now.

Does this spec look ok? Is this mobo and RAM ok or can I get anything better? 750W enough for the PSU?

Thanks

Looks great mate. Personally I'd have stuck with the lancool dragonlord k62 that hyperst recommended but being an owner I'm bound to say that :) your choice.

That spec does look good, could save a bit of cash getting the components seperately and overclocking yourself - if your happy to read up on it.

The 5850 is a better shout than a GTX275. The 5770 is marginally below a GTX260, although my 5770 runs Dirt 2 DX11 at 1920x1080 quite happily there is the odd slow down.

Thanks guys. Hopefully will get it ordered at some point in the new year. Are those cards likely to come down much in price or are they still hard to get? Would be happy enough to try overclocking them myself but wouldn't want to risk wrecking something!

some nice specs up there ^^ I don't think the cards will come down yet, as they are still selling out and some places have whacked them up to almost £300!!

Good luck on your build and dirt 2 is a brill game.
