Few years ago i couldn't play any fast paced first person shooters vertigo , dizzy spells sickness.... Been playing gothic 3 just fine for a few days having numorus breaks, but not today. The constant having to swing the camera angles around hitting enemies has suddenly made me feel very sick , ive took numorus breaks but everytime i go back to it i feel ill.

Last time this happened i couldn't play the game again , aside the bug problems i was really enjoying the game

Another game i couldn't play was Tomb Raider , i had to go to bed :(

Any gamers here suffer from vertigo dizzy spells with certain games?

When doom first came out i was a little like that bad heads e.t.c i found once i changed the refresh rate the bad heads went but still felt a little dizzy,
now im a little older all seems fine.
When i used to play decent a friend of mine would nearly spew when i played it if he watched , so your not the only one :)

Try Prey, makes even the hardcorest of gamers heads spin. I also heard a lot about HL2 causing really bad sickness due to a slight distortion that's constantly in place oer all the graphics. Try it :p

Yeah i got this on Prey big time when you had to shoot those pads and the rooms spins, that made me almost sick and i didnt play it after that, HL1 Also did this to me but i only felt sick a couple of times in HL2.

Do you suffer from travel sickness or just when you play games? Try and sit back abit and see if you can change you refresh rate and that might help, take breaks and have like a glass of water (or any drink) next to you when you play. That might help..

My brother can't play any first person shooters as he feels dizzy/sick just looking at them. For some bizzare reason over the past year or so my eyes go a bit funny when playing solitaire.

One of my mates can't even look at any fps, they make him feel very sick in minutes, racing games & pes,pga golf he is fine with

Cant go any higher than 75hz on this tft , i doubt its the refresh rate problem
but simply the brain trying to handle the camera angle swings

I know someone who has a problem with their eyes. They cant see 3D games or something. If they play anything in 3D they get very sick and have to go lay down :(

LCDs need only run @ 60Hz. In fact higher than 60hz can sometimes cause visual artefacts on LCDs. Don't worry LCD is essentially 'always on', it has no refresh rate.

I've got a friend who has exactly the same problem, anything 2D he was fine but first person games were impossible for him to play. Not sure if he ever got over it 100% but he said moving his monitor so a window was behind it helped, (as the sickness seemed to be caused by the brain being tricked into moving but the body didn't then move) So having something in a fixed position but far away helped.

Also sitting a bit further back from the monitor so he could see things arround it, which didn't move helped.

..and I believe the doctor gave him some motion sickness pills, not sure if they ever did anything but worth going to see a doctor about.

I do remember when i first player tomb raider on the ps1 i got sick. Wore off after a few days of playing tho. Think it was the first 3D game i played thats why.

Only if the frame rate is dramatically above 60 FPS.

Not from what ive seen , especially in gothic 3... and that game doesnt have frame rates dramatically above 60fps...

Each monitor is different
