This sucks ... vertigo / dizzy spells

Half Life made me feel sick. I couldnt complete it because of it. Half Life 2 is the same. It isnt to bad when I changed the FOV from 75 to 90. Basically its the narrow field of view that is causing the sickness. Imagine going on a roller coaster with blinkers on the side of your eyes.

If you use vsync the frame rates are so bad in the game that anything dropping below 60 50 will make it stone dive to half that of 60hz, 30fps...

I understand what you mean from an 'eye strain' point of view, but the fact is a 60hz refresh rate still means that the screen only updates 60 times a second. It may be constantly lit (rather than a CRT which is essentially just a continual series of pulses) but that doesn't mean that we should ignore the refresh rate when it comes to gaming, as a higher frame/refresh rate is beneficial for some people.

The technology is a irrelevant, a 60hz refresh rate is a 60hz refresh rate whatever way you look at it.

OK, sure. But they do have a response time too ;) A 16ms panel for example, can theoretically display 62.5 (1000 / 16) images per second peak. 12ms would be 83.3r. As far as I know all the <12ms panels are grey-grey, with a real response time of no better than 12ms.

Personally I do like higher FPS, even though my monitor has firmly been at 60hz due to DVI for a long, long time. The tearing doesn't bother me since I rarely see it in most games. The higher framerate is noticeable though, but mostly because the minimum framerate is also higher.
