After a 6 month saga of administration incompetence displayed by Admiral insurance, I finally got my car booked in to have the passenger door replaced last week. On Thursday, I was promised delivery of an Audi TT-S as a "similar replacement" to a Z4 Coupe. Sounds about right. Only the Polish man with horrible breath and personal hygiene, who's musk still remains embedded in the interior, landed up in this:

I was slightly disapointed at first since I was looking forward to trying out the TT-S but in the grand scheme of things, as far as courtesy cars go, it isn't all that bad. I didn't even call to complain which is the first sign of this car's effect on me. I think I'm growing a vagina.

Anyhow. First impressions were fairly good. It looks good despite it not being my sort of image at all. Build quality is very impressive all round. I'd say that it feels better screwed together than any of the BMW 1 series models I've had, especially on the interior. The indicator stalks are laughable. They feel like they have been designed over a period of 20 years by a civil engineer. Very satisfying though!

I was going to sing the praises of the 2.0T engine. It's an absolute joy to drive and puts out a nice amount of power. The fuel economy is shocking though, worse than the 265bhp 3.0 in my car. Maybe it's because the engine hasn't loosened up yet with 1800 miles on the clock but on the run to work which I normally average about 32mpg in the Z4, the A3 gets 29mpg. That run is 85% motorway. Around town, 22mpg is as high as it gets. Pretty poor if you ask me.

Handling is the typical numb and lifeless fayre from Audi. There is no steering feel and when pushing on, the front wheels become very spongy on turn in and you're never really sure if they're gripping or not. The handling is perfectly acceptable for everyday driving but it's about as exciting as a Werthers Original.

There's no reason for this post other than I thought someone might be interested or have questions. I still wish it was about the TT-S though.

I havent had the roof down yet. Sometimes it feels like the roof is down with the amount of noise that penetrates the cabin.

Shame it wasnt a TT-S, but great that its not a Corsa or something equally as horrible that accident repair centres give you.

The side panels just look so bland, there are no folds/creases or curves, it's just a sheet of metal!

Even a trim line would have improved it!
