The i5 will be paired with a 1060 that I bought a few weeks back. Question is, how much of a performance gain am I looking at? Sometimes my minimum fps on insurgency and bf can drop below 40 (more so on insurgency) so I want that to come up a fair bit.

It will be a decent boost I imagine. The guy in this thread is certainly very happy going from a FX8350 to a 4670k and that's a older generation than the 6600k.

Agreed, i would think it'll be a decent improvement. Will get you much better i/o features too.

As for your game performance its hard to tell without seeing what your CPU load is like during play.

The board is a good choice as you'll be able to overclock your non k cpu with a bios flash.

Bear in mind that b grade boards don't always come with an io shield

Intel have started cracking down on overclocking with non 'k' cpu's. A lot of boards now have bios updates that disable it. Not sure if it is the case with the Gigabyte K3.

Thanks appreciate all of the replies. And yeah noticed the price difference after posting I think I'd opt for the 6500 now since the difference is so little. Initially I wanted the 6600k and some prettier ram but it came to around 500 quid which I thought was pretty steep. Didn't want buyers remorse.

You'd need to find and flash a non-k bios for the board. The link I posted has a download link for a bios for the K3.
