hello,i was thinking of buying this week offer Krypton Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz @ 4.00GHz Overclocked Bundle - Gigabyte ,at £409.98,what other items would i need, this pc is to be used for video rendering and photoshop cs 5,i have 2 -1 x terabytes new hard drives, would it be wised to buy a 60 g solid stade drive, going on windows 7, 64 bit or vista 64 bit, anyone knows how long this week offer ends,i looking for the best deal possible as money is on the low side, any help or views would be nice, regards jos

This week only will end Wednesday next week (wednesday to wednesday) the 950 is quad core + hyperthreading - 4 cores 8 threads.

I would look at windows 7 and perhaps going with Sandybridge rather than the older 9xx series cpus.

Do you have a budget in mind.

This link shows the i7-2600K and i5-2500K's performance in video encoding, relative to socket 1366 and 1156 processors, and neighbouring pages show performance in Photoshop, Sysmark and 3D Rendering. To summarise, both perform well when compared to the i7-975, and even offer stiff competition against the 980X. I'd be tempted to get the 2500K, as you say price is a key concern for you and the performance gain with the 2600K appears minimal.

thanks for the advice, the budget well around £600,could anyone spec me a system for around that,i would do with my monitor, cheers jos

What sort of graphics power you need, if at all? Nvidia CUDA any help? Can your software make use of Intel QuickSync? Do you need OS, HD, Optical drive? Will you benefit from SSD? Using the drive as scratch pad? 8GB?

A i7 with hyperthreading will help video rendering, but given budget, a 2500K seems to be the best bet.
