Looking at buying this, there is a bad review saying its not true 700w, is that true?

Basically my current PSU is not powerful enough for my new system.

Current PSU is Antec Neo HE 500w

My evolving system is:

C2D E6400 @ 3ghz (Q9550 in march)
4x 1gb Ballistix 1066
1gb GTX 280
XFI Gamer
2x 250gb HDD
3 case fans

I'm also thinking about getting a 700w PSU to help me with future upgrades.

Just slightly above 300W peak draw using Q9650.

According to that, my 500w power supply should be fine.

I dont quite understand then why my system is failing with a burning smell coming from the psu and the power connectors are getting really hot.

The only reason i might suggest a different psu is your graphics card, the 700w GameXtreme has quad 12v rails each at 18amp. I don't know what the current requirement of the 280gtx is but it maybe close to this or even more. In which case i would strongly recommend a psu with a large single 12v rail. Something like this maybe?

Sadly that is over my budget, i'm really looking at spending around £70-£80.

It looks like the power requirements for the GTX280 is 550w minimum with 40amps on the 12v.

According to XFX and some other sites, the GTX 280 requires at least a 550w psu?
