Opinions of it all really? Aiming for it to be my main computer to take to University with me, plus future proofing it with a Duo Core. On the website i configured it with, it said there will be no problems but wondering if anyone has played around with this Shuttle, any problems with it? Aiming to use the Raptor as the main XP HDD and all my games. The other 2 HDD will be used for music and general data storage.

In all honesty, as i briefly mentioned in the OP, it will be build for me by another company but i am knowledgeable enough to carry out upgrades in the future. (CPU, RAM and GFX, that's all). I haven't worked with Shuttles before, hence why i'm asking a few random questions. :o

And your spec is quite impressive, especially the 4Gb RAM. Mm, as long as it isn't too quiet but perhaps the Seagates are quieter/noiser than the Spinpoints? Plus i'm having a Raptor so...hmm.

Overall, happy with the Shuttle chasis itself? :)

So the only issue with it was the loudness? Although you did have a 8800 (Which according to the company i'm using, that GFX can't fit in the Shuttle), plus 3 Spinpoints. :p

Nice to know it's very easy to upgrade things though - i wasn't sure what to expect.

:)

Good grief. Reason i ask, i just checked the PSU and apparently it only has a 400W...

POWER 400W PSU with active PFC
Input: 100 ~ 240V AC
EMI Certifi ed: FCC, CE, BSMI, C-tick
Safety Certifi ed: TUV, UL, CB, BSMI
Power Plug: Region Specific

Yeah, they seem solid though, my first one blew up when I tried running it off an inverter! But since then they have been solid. I guess they are just a genuine 400W..

What do you mean when you say you tried running it off an inverter? Bit lost now. :o Hmm, i was looking on OcUk and it was saying how the 8800 GTX required 500W or so basically.

My problem, i have found another company who CAN sell the 8800GTX with the Shuttle i want but only with 2xHDDS whereas another can offer me a 7950 GT and with 3xHDDS and claimed the 8800GTX can't fit. :o

That's what i thought. Except one company believes 3 HDD spaces exist and the other company doesn't but instead offers the 8800 GTX. So i was lead to believe that maybe the 8800 GTX was a bit too big so no more space for the extra 3rd HDD.

Either way, i e-mailed the company to find out. Didn't realise it was on the Shuttle website. :)

I'll do a bit more research in to the PSU to be certain but it seems like it'll be fine.

EDIT: The 8800 GTX is Gainward, shouldn't make a difference should it...i'm 99% certain it doesn't but just
in case? :o

I wouldn't have thought so, there are a few folks with 8800 GTX's, they won't interfere with any of the Hard Drives, perhaps the supplier was thinking of fitting a floppy drive.

Mm, could be right actually. I use some people still use them? :o

Thankyou though, you've been most helpful! :)

/off to bed.

I ran 3x 400 gig hds in mine for a while [back down to one now], along with my 8800gtx, no issues at all :)

however I would personally recommend a maximum of 2 drives as the 3rd will restrict the exhaust fans at the rear

Ah ha. That's the sort of comment i was looking for...i am veering towards having 2x750Gb anyways. After all, a Shuttle can only hold so much i guess! :)

chaparral: I shall, thankyou. <3

--ki--: Very nice system. Mm, noise isn't too much of an issue for me and i may end up replacing the CPU cooler, see how it goes. As for building it myself, i am tempted to but i'm one of those people who can't sit still and actually finish a job, plus i am not that experienced and generally my life motto is paying people to do it correctly and properly the first time round. :o

UPDATE.

I rang up the company who claimed the 8800 GTX can't work with the Shuttle i want and i rambled on about other companies stocking it, plus 'friends' getting it all working PLUS the fact Shuttle says it'll work. The bloke on the phone (His name was Pav...) did a little bit of research and said he'll add it to the site for me and if i wanted to, i could take the order offline and he'll sort it for me.

He basically said there was a problem with the battery. I asked if he meant the power supply or the battery to which he didn't really know and kind of said 'both'...hmm. Apparently the company had sent "hundreds" back to Shuttle in Germany to get it fixed.

Thought i'd update you. :o

sounds like they are incorrectly diagnosing the "meep" when powering down with some earlier model 8800gtx's

also drawing blood during a pc build is the recommended method to avoid devilish behaviour during its natural life :)

Explain the "m33p" and i don't understand the blood comment... :(

Mm, don't know much about the topic so that sort of terminalology is zooming over my head...may play around a bit but it's good to know just how capable it is. :)

Obviously being a Shuttle, temperatures will be an issue and although i won't be overclocking it straight away, i'd prefer to ask and see if it really is possible.

/waits for Stephen B's advice about cooling a Shuttle and overclocking it.

Never realised Shuttles were so easy to overclock...i naturally assumed it would be harder to do because of the cooling side of things.

I may look at the E6600 instead of the E6700 as the 8800 GTX is quite expensive. :o

My DDR2 will be 2GB Corsair XMS2 Pro . :)
