So looking for a new kind of nice looking laptop that has a bit of power behind it.

Seems pretty decent spec, would go with a macbook but it's around another thousand on top of this for less spec?

So just wondering if this is decent for the money or recommendations for something similar?

Liking the GPU on this, and the processor not too fussed about the "motion control" or the touch screen :)

No hotlinking images.

The positive with the HP is that the casing looks premium, whereas mine is based on a generic one.

To be honest with all the hassle I have had with HP's over the years I would tread very carefully.... HPs seem to have more design flaws than several others manufacturers put together.

Agreed, the amount I see for repair or faulty returns on a daily basis is unbelievable! Stay away from HP.

I have this model, except mine came with the 740m, which I don't mind as I don't really game, it plays WoW on High/Ultra and BF4 at a lower resolution on medium. Both games are rarely played.

While I love the laptop, and waiting patiently for my SSD to arrive there is some nice pros and some cons.

Pros
Screen is beautiful
Speakers are fantastic
Build quality is great, really premium finish from top to bottom.
Backlit keyboard comes in very handy, and first time I've had one on a laptop
For a big laptop, its very portable
It runs very cool, temp monitor has it around 29 degree idle, and never over 40 when
I'm running spss/word/excel + a dozen chrome tabs.

Cons
The track-pad, while its big, very responsive there's a design flaw, it doesn't have physical buttons, so the track-pad sits on top of the buttons (like a macbook)
my issue with this is, its not securely sat on top of the buttons, when using
the track-pad to navigate around you sometimes feel and hear a loose clicking noise.

The WiFi wasn't great, while mine is used as a desktop replacement I sometimes got
disconnections, or poor signal, even when the router is 5 meters away with no walls.
Its stopped recently since I've updated drivers, but others on the HP website still have some niggles.

All in all, I love it, I had mid range HP 15" laptop just before I purchased this one, as I wanted a bigger screen and better resolution. It hasn't let me down yet and this is with it switched on 24/7.

I had an envy 17 a year or so ago (it was the model before) and it was pretty damn awful.

It was very powerful, but the build wasn't great and there were several hardware related issues (such as the hdmi port not working most of the time).

From personal experience I would not go anywhere near HP, have an Envy 17
which has overheated from day one. HP told me the nuclear temperatures were within acceptable levels. If I were you - I would go elsewhere.
