A while back when i posted about build my 1st PC i was given a link to a very thorough illustrated guide. I have looked back through my old posts and i can't seem to track it down.

Basically all the components are going to arrive tomorrow and i am going to attempt to build a PC from scratch for the first time. I have done small jobs like fitting a new GPU, RAM and a HD but not much more.

Is there a really good guide somewhere on the net that will help?

Not illustrated but Ultra_Extreme's guide in the sticky at the top of the page is pretty comprehensive. Best advice I can offer is don't rush it and don't force it, there is generally only one way things can fit together and shouldn't require massive amounts of pressure to do so. Good luck :)

Ultra Extreme's guide seems good, but i just want some pictures to look at as well. Wish i could find the link i was given before it was excellent.

Exception being the lockdown lever on a 939 HSF which often feels like it's about to snap.

too true never had on go though, they thing are tight

To the OP read the manual three times , set out your work area , take your time and think each stage through ,if you do not understand STOP and think it though.

my best advice is to build it outside of the case put the mb on some card or newspaper then just put in the cpu and heat sink , then the ram followed by the GFX card coulpe up the power leads and try it it will only go as far as the bios , then try the hdd and cd drive .

load the os if all is well rebuild it in the case following the same order small steps and test each step before you add the next bit

i think i posted on that thread, there is a good guide on toms hardware, i cant find it but maybe someone has the link?. What spec did you decide to get then?. Just take it slow and make sure your grounded well by touching a radiater every now and then.

good luck
