Thoughts about Windows 7 compared to Vista

Im still having problems with stuff, tho i have fixed my email but my tv card just wont work i've tryed installed the vista drivers which do work ish but when i use media centre it just crashed and crashed the computer hard total lock up and even had on BSOD from it early so not good but other then that im still using vista.

Having used it on my brothers laptop, I really like it. Found all the drivers, like card reader, sound, dvd drive, wifi and even a display driver (was an old one but still). Took me awhile to like the new taskbar, but having used it for a good few hours i find it a lot more efficient than the previous one.

May upgrade from my current install of Vista. Ran the upgrade advisor and all the programs/hardware will work, so an upgrade seems ok. I think lol :D

Yea works great on my bro's computer at first it diddn't like the wireless card but was fine after i connect by cable and it download a load of updatas and then the wireless cards was fine.

Im thinking may be my win7 built could be bad ?

I could go mad :mad::mad:

Tired to install COD4 it installed most of it got to the end a did nothing for 20mins so i thought i must have crashed so i endded it go to run cod then says an error so go to try to uninstall it and comes up with some other error so either way cod4 stuck.

My TV dose work drivers wise but media centre just keeps crashing and making my comp BSOD and the WinTV software isn't much better the only thing i can think of the tho could my graphics card drivers be causeing the BSOD cat, 9.10 i think

Any ideas ?

My TV card worked with the MS drivers (DVICO Dual Tuner thingy) but Media Center only found about 20% of the channels it normally did. I noticed that manufacturer had released some new drivers for Win 7 a few days before, so I downloaded those and all was good after that.

So as the others said, check the manufacturer site for updated drivers.

yea same my card found only 10% of the channel then crashes or BSOD i've check the there web site i dosen't list my card yet great :(

But it works fine on Vista tho :)

I've found it a lot less resource hungry compared to vista, plus it's not doing as much in the background compared to vista such as the indexing and various other things. It doesn't seem to get bogged down over time with start up and shut down times like vista did. Where after a little while it seemed to take longer and longer after about 3 months or so.

It didnt list my card specifically either. Uninstall the MS drivers, install the DVICO ones. It should work better.

Right i've got COD4 stuck on my drive it wont uninstall and i've deleted the files and i cant re-installed it either.

Any ideas how i remove it ?

My Compro T200 card works fine in Win7. Compro are good for driver support. Razor Copperhead is detected by win7 and installs a basic driver if wanted. The last downloadable vista driver pack (v6.20) from razor website works fine however in win7.

Only issue ive had driver wise is for Uli Raid on my A8R-MVP machine, but the last uli released drivers seem to work ok. for installing win7-64 fresh on the uli raid. Then once win7 installed, took the updated uli drivers from vista sp1 (as win7 has no uli driver of its own) and all seems fine.

You know the taskbar quick launch items such as firefox how do i get it to open a new instance of firefox instead of minimizing it when i click on the icon ?

Loving W7, couldn't even be bothered with Vista on home computer. Mainly because I cba'd buying it when XP did the job.

Upon upgrading to W7 4 months ago the only major problems I had were relating to my onboard sound device and subseqently a 10 year old Creative Sound Blaster replacement I tried.

No chance with the creative and I gave up the ghost. Found decent driver support for my onboard and now it all works like a charm.

Upon re-installing last week when I received my retail copy, it took me 1hr15 minutes and I was pretty much back in action to my normal working environment. I had planned it, but still, smooth as a babys backside.

Still loving it, and everyone who I recommend to upgrade who does, has also loved it. Except my boss, but only in 64bit as he is scared of it and doesn't like THAT much change at once :)

I was a bit dubious about Windows 7 when I tried the beta alongside my existing Vista SP2 installation because it felt like little more than a Vista Service Pack but I have to admit that after using the retail version of Home Premium for the past week I don't think I could go back to Vista. It still feels a lot like Vista on the surface but a lot more streamlined and improved in areas it needed to be.

For starters, my machine just feels so much more responsive than Vista ever did; it loads quicker/shutsdown faster and I can start accessing programs within seconds of the desktop appearing rather than having to endure lots of disk thrashing and long waits while applications opened as I did with Vista. That in itself is worth the upgrade alone in my opinion.

I did an in-place upgrade too so all my startup programs are still there as are all my games and applications. I've come across a few bugs and niggles but nothing major and a small number of my games aren't working properly but overall I'm very impressed with 7. I love the new taskbar and libraries and the Action Center is a vast improvement on the Security Center from Vista.

Darren, I think your signature is oversized by a line. The rules state that it's only four lines of text, or 1 along with an image which is 400x75px and less than 20KB.

Just saying cause it's better you alter it rather than a moderator.

Good news guys i have got my tv-card working yay :) after i got cod4 stuck on my drive and windows keeped playing up and BSOD most of the time i when and formatted the hdd and re-installed w7 again then downloaded the new drivers for my tv which the guy at WinTV email support sent me and it work 1st time :D
