Hi there,

Please help me out with some advice as to the below basket.

I want a good powered machine and also want it to be aesthetically pleasing;)

I can salvage 2TB HD from my old decrepit Dell machine but would like to know what is missing from the build.

TIA

Riiiiiight

You are going way over the top. Haswell-E is completely pointless for this tbh, there's looking good and there's overkill :)

An i5 will do well once overclocked in Arma 3, as it is a CPU intensive game. Something like the GTX 770, R9 280X or even the GTX 780 @ £215 will play Arma 3 well, again as it is a CPU intensive game
1200W is unnecessary, that will run on a good 550W :)

You can make the PC look great but it doesn't need to be expensive

Thoughts?

I thought it was a little bit overkill but was hoping to make it last a good few years.

Really want to keep the B&W theme going with the case, mbo and PSU.

A little? Massive mate :) This i5/i7 will last a fair few years also, probably longer for just web browsing etc

Here's a try;

Thank you very much for the quick response and also for the little touches you have thrown in to keep the theme. You have shaved a good few quid off the build for me too.

Is there any need for me to throw 16GB ram in there or will 8 be fine?

I like the white cable bundle. I hadn't considered this. Is there any partiucular reason for it?

Overall to my untrained eye it looks really good.

16GB RAM is fairly pointless for your uses :)

The cables will just set it off, along with the LEDs. The main PSU cables go behind in the PSU compartment and the braided cables attach to the end of them, extend and you should put the white cables through the case so it looks good :)

Something like this but white cables :) - http://cdn.overclock.net/6/67/6749832d_SAM_1372_zps26ce7ec4.jpeg

Thank you both for the input. It will help me fine tune the build.

I appreciate the specs are OTT for what i need but i don't mind having that little bit extra oomph if my needs were to change down the line.

I like things to tick over and not be stretched hence the probably silly spec'd original build.

Do you ever think that the uses will ever change?

This will do pretty much everything you want it to with similar numbers, and still looks good

This is highly upgradeable, (drop in an i7, new GPU, more RAM in the future should you need)

Under £900, no need to go Intel.

Can't say I agree with that, cause for £850 built I'd be looking at Intel ideally - there's no upgrade paths at all with AM3+ anymore really, and I *think* Arma 3 doesn't use all cores so I'd want those cores to be as strong as possible (intel)

The price is going down. I likes :D Thanks for the help.

Is the 970 not a more modern GPU? I see the 780 is a bit cheaper though i don't mind spending a little more. Is there much difference between them?

Not too much, it's up to you whether to spend the extra

I think all the bling stuff adds up the money, so without that I think the total would be less i.e. I went for that board as it's quite dark so goes with the scheme
