My daughter is a student using a 13" MacBook. She's asked for me to source an external display as she'd like the additional screen area (I've taught her well
).
When she's home she uses, as a TV, an old Samsung 32" LCD telly which is, to be fair, borked.
I'm wondering if I can combine these two use cases into a single device. A screen that she can use as a TV when she's home (connecting a Sky Q mini box via HDMI) and a monitor that she can use when she's at Uni.
Putting a 32" screen on the desk makes me think she'd want a 1440p display to get the best benefit from the screen while sitting close to it. But since she's not a gamer, she doesn't need more than 60Hz. And because she'd be using it as a TV (at a greater viewing distance when home) she wouldn't want a curved screen.
I'm thinking £300-£400 as a budget.
Anyone got any thoughts about this, or suggestions for monitors to look at? Am I barking up the wrong tree trying to source a single device?
