Thoughts on a Jaguar XK?

Running costs are reasonable apart from petrol, dont let running costs put you off.

Im expecting the petrol to cost a fortune, but i dont envisage using it for a daily commute. The celica might still be running then and if so ill use it till it literally dies.

Im thinking the xkr will be out of my range to be honest, but im sure prices will come down when i end up actually buying, so should really see the state of play then.

Im really looking for something different - all my friends own BMWs, Mercs, 350z's etc and i dont want to follow the crowd! The xk really stands out to me and i absolutely loved its interior.

I think the '08 versions sorted out the aerial so will have to keep my eyes out for one of thmem.

DM did you ever own an xk?

Iv had loads of them, the incarnation you are thinking about has a bomb proof engine, seriously get one and enjoy, petrol aside it will cost you no more to run than any other premium car.

All of the above were much more fun than the XKR i wasn't a fan of the 911 handling but then it was the first mid/rear engine RWD car ive driven i found it harder to control the back end.

the rally Clio with the straight cut box was awesome and I need to be physically fitter to drive the single seater properly.

But on topic the XKR felt sluggish I didn't like the auto box. At speed the under steer was horrendous requiring much lower speeds to corner effectively.

I'm sure for on the roads it would be a very nice car but my only experience of driving one was in these conditions. Comparing with other cars I drove on the day that felt much more responsive.

Done the same myself twice and hated the things twice as well, Seemed like you waited for ever for the box to engage the gear after you had selected and it really did feel like a boat (how light is that steering??)

But they did force you to drive them with the drivers aid's on (Actually have barriers to hit on that track) They are also run on crazy petrol leaving them down on power. On the roads I'd imagine they are fine and pretty dam quick to boot, They have since replaced them with M3's.
