Thoughts on a PC Spec?

Hi Guys,

I'm new to the world of DIY PCs, but I've been reading for days now. I'm looking to sort myself out with a new system, to run Vista Home Premium and do a bit of gaming. My budget (for complete set-up minus monitor mouse and keyboard) is £650-700.

In terms of spec, the most important things for me are:
At least 2GB RAM
At least 500GB HDD
Dual Layer DVD-RW

The games I'm looking to play will be fine running on either a 7950GT or an X1950PRO, no need for the 88xx series just yet (I'll probably upgrade in the summer when I've got a bit more cash).

So what do you suggest?

Antec NSK4000 380W
£34.20
Intel Core 2 Duo 6400 2.13Ghz
£133.65
Asus P5GZ-MX
£44.41
Crucial 2GB DDR 533 2x1GB
£84.98
Seagate Barracuda 500GB 7200rpm
£81.06
ATI Radeon X1950XT 256MB
£149.84
Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit
£70.75
LG GSA-H12N 18x DVD±RW
£21.99

£620.88

That's awesome, thanks. Just one question - would I see a vast difference between a 512MB X1950 and the 256MB?

No afaik, It's only when you have textures on ultra uncompressed or something stupid like that.

Welcome to the forum,

Got some good spec rigs suggested.

One thing to remember is that you will have to put this together and that is fun if you new to the build game.

Hope it goes well and if you need any help feel free to post.
