Thoughts on Acer S243HLbmii 24"

Hi there,

Looking at the specs (TN panel, 24in, LED backlight, 1080p resolution) I think the price is quite high (£210).

Instead, I would suggest going for a cheaper monitor like this. If you really want an LED backlight, then this one is about the same price. Or you could spend around the same money as the Acer, and get an IPS panel monitor like this.

Also, please remove the link to the competitors before the mods see it (possibly replace it with a link to the acer product page for the monitor and its price) as it is against forum rules.

Aesthetics are about all it really has going for it, I'm afraid. Before I had tested it out myself a user had purchased this and was quite displeased with it - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18120203&highlight=s243hl+username_pcm2. Since then I have had the chance to test it out myself. The colours are rather inaccurate (even for a TN panel) and there was a seemingly uncorrectable blue colour tint. It was possible to alleviate this somewhat by extensive ICC tweaking (calibration) but this is no good for gaming - even adjusting the colour settings via the OSD to the point where contrast really suffered offered no relief. At any settings the image looked somewhat washed out and flooded with low gamma. I won't add insult to injury by discussing the intricacies of how the responsiveness fairs. It's a good monitor... To avoid.

P.S. I think I've got it in for Acer today. If you visit my website (link by clicking my forum name) and see the recent post about the Acer HN274H you'll see what I mean. Not all my doing but the choice of language was very much my own.
