Thoughts on BF3 and origin ?

BF3 is awesome, never had to scroll all the way to the bottom for any servers to appear

lol the last time i used the bf2 browser it was terrible, You cant even filter what maps to see, and if i typed into the map box at the top it wouldnt show me any server untill i logged out and in

Battlefield 3 is just too much. What a wonderful piece of Software. Graphics are the best i have ever seen in a video game, Single player so far has got me hooked from the moment i started the main campaign. MP is absolutely sensational and to top it all off, the Gameplay is wonderful.

This is how you make a FPS game. Every other FPS wannabe shooters should bow down to this Masterpiece

9.8/10

Hm you can filter maps on bf2, you just click the maps header :)

My thought is easy.

Im one of those gamers that like to enjoy the game that I am playing not sit there and think
about every little move that I make, and Battlefield 3 is just not the game I thought it would
be, there is to much going on, to many planes and tanks and heli's and all that kinda stuff.
Yeh the game looks brilliant and stuff but that for me isn't enough if the gameplay aint
very good.

Totally agree.

The infantry only maps are very good though. I also think it plays far to fast.

Never used Origin before yesterday but it's not as bad as people make out. The only real problems I have is that the software is a bit slow and clunky, and the overlay is absolutely dreadful, literally worse than Steam's first effort two years ago. But I had no problems purchasing, entering codes, adding and communicating with friends, etc.

And why the hell do you have to launch the game from a website? So stupid, I hate that part. Who on Earth thought that was a good idea?

I have found that side of it excellent tbh, i wouldn't give you anything for Origin and understand why people don't like it but I think Battlelog is great(when it works smoothly). I find it all very convenient and think it works really well.

I am liking this game so far apart from a small issue whereby I drop from a game half way through and receive the message "Your connection to the server has timed out."

Does anybody have any clue how to fix this? My connection is fine with other games so it's not down to my internet connection.

Im running a Q6600 with 4gb of ram and a 460GTX? I have tried the game on high to low settings with the same result.

Any pointers would be great.

The only similarity I've noticed between BF3 and COD is that the developers for BF3 obviously played Black Ops, I mean another game based on a flashback storyline? sound familiar?

I hear this, like BC2, has issues with UPNP, try turning that off in your router, you might also need to forward some ports which you can probably find in this thread.

Coming from someone that has only played COD and CS I find it a refreshing change. Had a blast last night with some friends getting dropped off in helicopters and jeeps with explosions going off everywhere!

Not too sure on Origin though, had a few problems... And much prefer the simplicity of Steam.

For me, this game has the most dumb ass installation routine I have ever experienced:

1 - Update Video Drivers - Understandable
2 - Need to download origin again - Okaaaayyy
3 - Game tries to activate, after 10 mins tells me it can't activate (repeat this step for about 2 hours) - For real?
4 - Begins installing, but origin tells me it is downloading (Not actually sure if it is downloading orinstalling off dvd until it aks for dvd number 2 -
5 - Finishes installing off the dvd, then seems to download the enitre game again via the net (takes ages) -
6 - Finally fully installed/downloaded & tells me it's not activated for some strange reason - Really taking the biuscuit now
7 - Launch the game & opens ie9 (??????) & tells me to download some retarded plugin - Yawn
8 - Install plugin, but does't seem to have any affect at all, telling me I should have the plugin - Throws game under bed & finishes database making for work which was easier & more fun

Honestly, I work 9-5, my spare time is precious to me. 48 hours after recieving the game, I still haven't played it (And tbh don't really want to if this is anything to go by). I have had windows installations take less time (including installing all software & tweaking it so it's the way I like it)

It's weird than your installation routine was that bad.

I already had the plugin from the beta, so could skip that step. And also already had Origin installed (pretty painless installation). I just entered my code, it downloaded, installed, and away I went. Easy peasy. Just like Steam pretty much.

As for people being disappointed/complaining: try to stop listening to the hype about the game. Or maybe, don't expect so much. Everyone had the chance to play the open beta, so could have easily got an idea what it was like from that. I swear, that every big title PC game that comes out, people hype it up so much, that no matter how good it is, it just falls flat. It's like the final Harry Potter movie. Everyone was making big waves about it, but when I watched it, whilst it was good, I felt that it lacked something. We are doing exactly the same with games now. Expect a bit less, and you might for once be happy.
