Thoughts on circumcision?

In the situations where it's done without legitimate reason or consent then it warrants negative connotations.

My thoughts? Errr, I'm neither Jewsh or Islamic. Leave my peice the **** alone. As someone else stated in this thread, who started this sick practice? I mean Women circumsision have many a charity, but where's the mens?

My children will genetically more likely to experience the same issue, thats enough of a reason for me to do it to my kids. If it stops them from having to go through the pain and trauma later on in life, then I am all for it :)

Oh they'll go through pain and trauma alright. The fact that when they come of an age when they realise their parents decided to remove a part of their penis without their consent.

If you get it done as an adult or have a medical condition then fair enough, but please let them make their own decision when they are old enough if they want it done or not.

Neonatal circumcision for example is just wrong.

We have an appendix too. That evolved, and is not there for any reason anymore..

i) We leave it there unless it goes wrong.
ii) A foreskin still has a purpose - it protects the penile glans.

That argument does not stand. When things go wrong they need to be removed :)

Which is not what is being talked about here. No-one's arguing against circumcision if it's medically necessary.

Incidentally, phimosis is normal in very young boys. The foreskin is not supposed to be retractable from birth.

I think I will want my kids done (if i have any boys!), medical reasons or not.

Thank you for so blatantly contradicting yourself.

Let's be clear about this:

You are not advocating "when things go wrong they need to be removed".

You are advocating cutting part of your child's genitals off purely because you want to do it.

The difference of course being that male circumcision at best has arguable hygiene benefits and definite medical benefits in certain cases, and at worst is unnecessary; while female circumcision is utterly barbaric and involves massive mutilation of the female genitals.

Seriously, you can't compare the removal of the labia and clitoris with the removal of a fairly redundant floppy bit of skin at the end of your willy.

It might not be comparable on like-for-like terms as far as usage/pain goes but they're both a form of mutilation which should only ever be done if there's a serious risk or problem.

I believe when it's done on children, for religious reasons or for "hygienic" reasons, then it's completely barbaric. Forcing women/girls to have their genitals cut too is also barbaric.

Again, as has been said many a time. If a problem arises in which removal of skin from the penis is necessary and the person gives consent, then fine. Although I wouldn't choose it, I like my turtle neck.

Yes, you have rather a large point, I was just measuring the two for comedic value, which you completely destroyed (correctly, btw)

Still you have to question the practice that worked out that it was safe to hack off last quarter inch of your peins.

+ I tried to make a few puns there. Did it work?

My dad had it done when he was 27 due to it being tight. I'm 23 and it is also tight for me. I was scheduled for my op on 25th Sept this year, but missed an appointment for a pre-op assessment and that canceled the entire thing... So going to have to re-book it soon!

Kind of worried that it'll be very insensitive after a few years of it not being protected, but my dad assured me it's better this way!

It has no ill effects, and i dont think you will find many bloke who are circumcised who will agree with you that they have been "mutilated".

You haven't used google then. Circumcision can cause psychological and physiological problems and for those reasons should not be done unless medically necessary as the NHS will tell you, nevermind the human rights issues. No respectable doctor in this country will perform the procedure without medical necessity, though that does little to ease my worry about your disturbing attitude.
