Evening all

Doing a new build for gaming, just want to know your opinions on my choices of CPU's

Either i3 7100 or i5 4690k

I am looking at spending roughly £200 not much more, what's best to look for with used CPU's

I know that the K models can be OC but I noticed the 7100 puts out 3.9ghz out the box

Thoughts please :)

4690K would be better than the i3 IMO, others may have other opinions tho, i think the i3 dual core just isn't really enough these days.

Thanks for the replies, So I'll scrap the 7100, I have seen an older 3570k will that be alright for the job or is that to dated now

A £200 budget now should get you an i7 I would have thought. It's not like there isn't going to be loads for sale, from now, and possibly for the next couple months.

Pretty sure there has been some cpu/mobo/ram combos a little over that recently.

That'l do if you find one pretty cheap.
Personally I would try and get a 6600 or 7600 (K if possible) as they use DDR4.
If you get an older system and upgrade later, you will also have to update the ram.

I think a better idea would be to leave it for a couple of weeks. Let Ryzen come out, and then wait for the Intel price cuts that will very likely happen. You can already pick up used 6600K's pretty cheap.

I wonder if the OP can wait a bit longer to see how the Ryzen R5 CPUs perform?? At the very least as the range gets rolled out Intel might cut a few prices too.

Yeah i was thinking about £200 for just CPU, i could wait for a few weeks no rush to get it, so may see what happens when Ryzen appears
