Thoughts on Dell S3225QC

Current setup is an AMD 7900XT / 7800X3D with a Dell S3222DGM 1440P monitor – which I have been very happy with. However, over the Christmas break I took the PC down to the front room to play some games with the family – connected to an LG C3 OLED TV – which has rather changed my perception of what a good picture looks like. And so – I’ve been toying with the idea of treating myself to a New Year upgrade.

Do the good folks of OCUK have any view on the Dell S3225QC? It’s currently available for ~£550 and so wouldn’t break the bank – also it seems to be well rated on sites like Toms Hardware and Rtings. I know that it’s only 120Hz – but with my current set up I don’t suppose that will be an issue.

As ever – grateful for any opinions or suggestions.

(supplementary question – is my current PC up to the world of 4K or should I stay at 1440P?)

If you want high fps then stick with 1440p and go with a 240hz OLED, 4K is very demanding and even a 7900XT would probably only able to hit 60/100 fps max is some games.

1440p 240hz is a good sweet spot for that card and setup.

Not seen that model before but it's qd oled so it's going to be vastly superior to what you have.

Thanks for that ;)

To be honest - the current monitor is only capable of 144Hz and so I wonder if with a combination of lower settings and FSR I could get away with 4K gaming at (up to) 120Hz...

.... does anyone have this monitor and able to give any feedback on it by any chance - or indeed recommend a monitor at around the same price point? I had an issue with my current Dell monitor and their customer support was brilliant - hence looking at this one - but happy to look elsewhere if you have a recommendation :)

Thank you - not seen that one

It seems (like the other reviews from Toms Hardware and Rtings) well received.

Not sure how gimmicky the speakers are - would have preferred them not to be there and have the monitor a bit cheaper;)

None of what you said is wrong.

But if I was the op I would also have one eye on the future. If you buy a 1440p monitor now your stuck with it for a while.

I'd seriously consider going 4k with the intention to get something in the future that can drive it.

That doesn't mean a 5090. Even a 5070ti class GPU or even a 5060ti (16GB) would be fine.

I use the Geforce Experience for all games that are supported and my 4080 is not having any issues with a 4k display.

Especially now with DLSS it makes 4k way easier to run.

I'm about to pull the trigger on this monitor, as my 27" QHD IPS Dell just decided to abruptly die on me.

Any caveats? People still happy with it? It looks great on paper

I just got one of these, the downside is it only has a usb c (dp alt) and an hdmi however both worked well.
The usb c must have a bidirectional adapter which they should really have supplied.
However once all sorted I’ve ended up loving it. Great picture quality.

The speakers are not great mind.

The adaptor - is that like a bidirectional USB-C to DP cable?

Shame about the speakers... I was hoping to lose the ones from my desk with this. I don't need much, more the odd game of BF, which is never very loud anyhow.

That’s the cable just make sure you read the small print, my third one was correct.
The speakers are useable but not brilliant.
