hey guys

been using desktop ever since I can remember & never took laptops into consideration due to the lack
of power but they have but recently with these new laptops with the 10 series GPUs it has certainly caught my eye.

I was thinking of a gtx 1070 gaming laptop used as a desktop replacement hooked up to my monitor
I hardly play games like I used to so I think the 1070 would be perfect, has anyone done this & can throw some insight? would be much appreciated

They may be catching up in terms of power but they are still largely behind in terms of noise. The gaming laptops that I have used have sounded like hair dryers, either when the room is warm, during CPU heavy tasks or gaming.

I don't think they represent good value for money either and usually the monitor specs aren't that great.

I guess it ultimately depends on your requirements though.

Of late GPU becomes an issue in the long term unless it is easily upgradeable and even then there are usually some complications in the upgrade path.

Most modern laptops easily have the CPU performance and RAM to support modern gaming and not all models are plagued by noise under load.

If you are going to be on the move a lot, a gaming laptop might sounds decent but they are quite heavy! You won't be whipping it out whilst sat at the train station without some bargaining, for example.

If you aren't going to use it on the move or between locations then just buy a PC as @HoneyBadger mentioned they aren't thee best VFM. Maybw a nm-ITX build?
