Thoughts on monitor

Ok so my acer predator x34 has got smashed up in transport for a fault repair with Acer today,
acer got in touch and said the monitor was un-repairable
and have offered me a full refund.
now my issue is
A: do i need such an expensive monitor with all the problems i have had with my x34 i dont know if i want to purchase another Acer.
B when i had the monitor i did really like it but it was massive and i sit right next to it on a fairly small desk,
my other issue is im running a single 980TI and my games especially the fps
games i play most cant get over 100fps and for me i found it a bit of an issue
and also when sitting so close to such a huge panel i struggled to focus on things going on around me.
so i have seen this panel the DELL
S2716DG 27" 2560x1440 TN G-Sync 144Hz Gaming Widescreen
now this has G-Sync it is 144hz it has slightly less resolution and it is TN
will these 3 things make a massive difference in quality over the predator x34?
or should i just bite the bullet and pre order a replacement of the same monitor.
when i look at the price of the dell it is very good and the specs seem
pretty good aswell, apart from it being TN which im not sure would bother me that much sitting right in front of it?
anyone have the DELL and any thoughts on is this a better option then my Acer x34 due to having a single card aswell and a slightly lower res?

I have the Acer x34 freesync version. I can't speak for the Dell but I can't imagine going back to a 16:9 monitor now - it would seem very square. I hear you about the small desk and the space the stand takes up is a bit of an issue but it's just gorgeous to look at and such a joy to game on. I'd be worried that I'd forever regret not replacing it if I went back to a 16:9 monitor. The extra Hz wouldn't offset this for me but then I wouldn't notice the difference between 100 - 144.

The games you're playing must be a few years old if you're getting 100+ FPS with a single 980Ti card at 3440x1440 resolution?

I Play a lot of old steam games TF2,CS,BF4,
but i think i have decided to save some cash on this monitor,
wait for the tech to improve somewhat.
get a cheap 144hz g sync monitor TN probably as i really dont care about ips.
and use the remainder of my cash to buy a HTC VIVE.
so i can have better use of my hard earned green backs.!!
