So I went and bought a Mac mini with;

4GB ram.
2.4ghz C2D.
320gb HDD.
etc.

Now, I've switched from a
i5-750 @ 2.7ghz
4GB ram.
1tb hdd.
5770.

Now, straight out of the box, this mac is amazing, the speeds are really good, everything seems to be running really smoothly, which would to be expected.

Now when I was installed World of Warcraft before, more so when I was applying patches and what not, my mac would become a lot slower that it usually is, now i don't recall this happening to the extent.

Now I know that my windows machine was a little bit better than my current system and that I was doing some quite heavy duty things on my mac mini.

But it's basically the exact same specifications of the Macbook Pro, so it's not as if it's "not an up to date machine" or whatever, lol.

So, I'm not moaning or anything, please don't mistake this for a bully thread, I absolutely adore my MM and i'd never go back to Windows, but it's just small things like this that are a tad annoying, although, I'm buying 8GB ram in May, so it's all good.

Can't wait to get an iMac or a MBP in may now also! can't wait!

Yep, forget the RAM unless you're doing seriously heavy lifting, get an SSD for primary storage and a big fw800 external drive for files. Makes a world of difference.

It's a C2D, what do you expect? Of course it's not going to be as good as the 750.

Actually, it was much better.

Exactly. It's basically the exact same specifications of a laptop. Doesn't matter if it's "up-to-date". It's laptop bits in a tiny chassis.

Why are you putting 8GB in it, unless you're doing something with it that's particularly RAM intensive. It's not like it'll run WoW any better. You need better graphics.

Should have got the iMac in the first place with the 4670. It's about as low as you can go to play WoW at 1920X1080 with a decent frame rate.

PS: iMac and MBP user here before I get barraged by "MAC HATER!"

It's not a downgrade in my personal oppinion due to the fact that it is a mac operating system.

And when I was looking at the information before, the disk usage etc, I only had like 250mb-500mb when doing the big WoW install.

As mentioned it was probably a combination of lower spec and the hard drive being "at fault", although it sounds like a case of adjusting expectations. You've basically gone from a pretty fast PC to a laptop that's a couple of generations old now.

Installing software, patching... lots of small writes to the disk will slow things down quite a bit even if the sum total is only a few hundred megs. An SSD would be a good upgrade.

It finally got here and it's amazing, I love my mac purchase, I wouldn't go back to windows for the life of me, but it's just making the adjustments, I'm at home with the mac now, I'm used to the way it works and so on, (I'm quite technology savy anyway), it's just the fact that I've got to get used that it's not as powerful as my old machine so I can't game willing nillingly :P

Absolutely love it though, will be definatly getting an iMac or a MBP in May.

Glad you like it. Apple crack is an expensive occupation. :)

Get yourself some handy apps such as Skitch and Evernote to name a few.
