Hi,

Currently got Creative 6700 6.1 and creative audigy 2 zs (and also 7.1 realtek on board)..

I am currently pricing to replace

ideally would want 7.1 speakers but ..not may arround..

so looking at asus xonar d2x and Logitech Z5500

Reason for replace is that creative 6.1 stuff does not work in windows 7 ....and had many for many many years...worth while upgrade?..the z5500 seem to have been round for years ..are they due to be replaced?

gaming / blu-ray / music mainly..

Thoughts?

Regards

Hi,

Looking to click on Order today..so I want advise..the best sound card i can get for a budget of arround 90 quid?

(will be looking to order the logitech z5500, unless someone says something better next week...
Regards

For what you are paying and getting, they are good speakers. It depends on the person really, as to whether they find the Z5500's good for music. It depends on what you have experience of. Someone who has owned a decent hi-fi, will find the Z5500 lacking in the music dept. Someone who has only PC speaker experience, will find them pretty good, musically.

It really depends on what your priority use for them will be. If you are wanting something primarily for music use, then a good stereo setup will be better. If you are wanting something for all round, gaming, movies and music, then you wont find better without going down the separates route, which will cost considerably more.

D2X is a very good sound card, and if you do decide to get one, along with the Z5500's, it would be best to use analogue connection. If you use SPDIF (optical/coaxial), then you are bypassing most of what the D2X is. The D2X has a superior DAC than the Z5500's, so will get better sound quality by connecting via analogue.

Cheers Marsman / Garf..

Currently have creative t6700 (not running in 6.1 mode cos of win 7) and creative 2 zs / or onboard 7.1 realtek...so whilst happy with the creative speakers...spent the money on the rest of the system..and the sound "hopefully" is the last component (well until i decide on a 3d monitor)..and do not plan to make any changes for maybe 2 years..

sounds good tho think I will buy next week..ordered the D2x yesterday ( qualified for free delivery yesterday..so could not wait..)

Cheers for the tip on Analogue...was looking to order a good Optical cable..but will hold off..

Garf..is it the size that I am going to get some grief from the misses..she only just got round the size of the antec...

lol m8

lets just say i used 2 be able to put my legs under my desk now i have to wedge them next to it lol :---0

The Asus soundcards are amazing the only issue they have is if a game crashes you will sometimes 80% of the time get the small bit of audio that repeats itself when it crashes. :/

Only way to stop that playing is a system restart, kind of a bitch but they make damn fine soundcards.

The sub pretty big. Biggest dimension, is the depth, which is 18".

oh sugar...that is big..current one is 9inch...hmmmm...it may find itself getting a custom cabinet in the loft ( the current speakers run thtough the wall into the loft and into the corners of the room anyway)..

I don't think I will mention it when I order..

Cheers

plugged in..Led's on the ports are on but windows 7 does not see it...plugged into pci-E and has the floppy power...but driver will not install..thoughts?

Try reseating the card. I had an issue with a card once, where Windows said it wasn't present. I reseated it, which solved the problem.

Tried that..did not work..so i swapped it from pci 16 to a lower one ..it was sitting next to the grphics card..so maybe that was something to do with it...

so far so good..although the creatives do not seem to want to play wth it...side/fronts are all comeing from the front....but will order the logitechs next week and see if that fix's it :)
