Comfortably Numb is a genuine great, ABitW is good, but the rest is a millionaire crying "Woe is Me" for eighty-odd minutes. Self-indulgent and massively over-rated (and unlike Gilly, I'm generally a fan).

Depends what you want from an album. Experimental yes. Yet it sounds epic today. Have a listen to all the pink floyd albums. And judge for yourself

All incorrect so far.

It's the best album ever made, just makes everything else seem shallow.

The film however, suffers for having long sections without music that don't add anything to the experience.

One of those albums where I'll remember where I was when I listened to the whole thing end to end, each time.

First time in the spare room at our old house on the PC, second time on a beach in Portugal. Both epic, I think I must be due another full listen soon.

Some of their early stuff I am not keen on but a lot of their songs stand out as classics (or at least they do to me)

A Great Day For Freedom
Another Brick In The Wall
Comfortably Numb
Dogs
Hey You
Money
Pigs
Sheep
Speak To Me / Breathe
The Great Gig In The Sky
Time
Wearing The Inside Out
Welcome To The Machine
Wish You Were Here

^^ love them all :)

It's cack. Like the rest of their stuff.

The best thing I can say about any of their albums is that they are the best albums released by pink floyd in their respective years.

loved the album when i was 16 going through the angst phase... made a nice change from hip hop. rarely listen to it these 20 years later

i would be interested to know what albums the people who say its crap listen to and think are amazing... some bloody awful musical tastes on this forum sometimes :)

Personally, my favourite band of all time. The uniqueness of The Wall is unsurpassed.

A tremendous album for start to finish.

As for the film, i can pretty much take it or leave it. However, the Gerald Scarfe animation still looks brilliant even today.

Every other person I've heard with this opinion has never really given PF a real chance, and just dismissed them once they hear a bit of spacey hippy rock.

Have you really actually tried with them? I understand it's not really ideal to have to "try" with a band in order to like them, but I just think you might have somehow missed some of the better bits due to hearing the more weird stuff and dismissing it all based on that.

Indeed, I've had the same experience as Zefan with people who say that about pink floyd. Fair enough if you just really dont like it though.

I've never seen the film, but some of the album is pure genius, probably my favourite out of their discography. :)

Yeah, my mum and dad have amazing taste in music and ensured I got my proper fill of Led Zep, queen, meatloaf, Bowie, Beatles, kinks, Stones, cream, Clapton, Hendrix, etc, etc.

Unfortunately my mum also liked floyd. Let her down :(

I was subjected to it more often than is fair for that rubbish.

My experiences are different.
I said earlier that I saw Floyd 3 times in the 70s, in fact my first date with my future wife was in 1974 watching Floyd on the DSOTM tour HOWEVER after all 3 gigs I NEVER heard anybody talk about the music, it was all about the show & lights.
I treat Pink Floyd like I treat Kiss, basically because their music is cack they have to put a big show on to cover it up.
