Now that this game has been out for a while I was wondering what folks thought of it after a couple of months of playing.... Is it fun? Is it interesting? Is it worth it? :)

I've recently given up WoW for the slower paced charms of EVE (and thanks to everyone on the OCUK channel who's helped out with advice and guidance ;) ) but having just read Buccaneer by Tim Severin I fancy sailing a ship along the Spanish Main :D.

So - if anyone could spare a couple of mins to give me their view I'd be grateful.

Cheers

I and a few of my friends moved from WoW to PotBS and after a week i quit and after about a 2 weeks my friends packed it in.
After being shown DX10 EvE on a friends comp and not feeling up to moving into space from WoW :D i decided to try PotBS, it was good at the begining the customization was fantastic, but the questing then became slightly repetitive and with a avatar combat system that is woefully inept, i found having to go to land a terrible chore.

Ship to ship combat is fun, but (i never experienced this)you can aparently just charge up to another bigger (much bigger) boat and board them , going into boarding mode and use that oh so fun avatar combat system to go kill the captain of the ship and then claim it as yours.

Compared to EvE its, well, a little wooden boat in a little pond :(. Add to that, quite a substantial faction imbalance as well as a world system that encourages port captures and defense and you'll either be a fish in a barrel being shot at or the people shooting the fish :(.

In my opinion it doesn't look like it could get better because the whole game is based around the factions and port capture/defense as well as the only real redeeming quality of PotBS its economic system that is quite brilliant really.

4/10 from me :( 'Its no EvE on water, thats for sure'
