Asus P45 P5Q
2x2GB Corsair Dominator 1066mhz
500gb seagate 32mb cache hd

To be used with a Thermaltake kandalf and a 7900GS til the 4870's drop in price.

Thoughts?

cheers,

Looks pretty good although the memory is somewhat overkill, some decent PC6400 would be easily sufficient up to 3.6ghz. Something like the G.Skill PC6400 PQ 4gb kit for ~£60 would fit the bill amongst a few other options.

I was under the impression the higher the cache the better in a hard drive?

Also surely the memory will be just as good as if not better than an 800mhz counterpart?

That psu is also quite a bit more (on a budget) than the current one.

The biggest difference I've noticed in hard drive caches is between 2mb and 8mb, there is a slight jump between 8mb and 16mb but you are beginning to hit the law of diminishing returns and it only gets smaller from that point onwards.

The memory (PC8500) will be as good as the PC6400 but you are paying extra for potential that you are seriously unlikely to use with that CPU and the higher the Ram is clocked normally the greater the amount of volts that you have to put through it.
