Thoughts on Taylor Swift?

She's hot but it's just generic catchy pop with no substance. In the spotlight more because of the rich parents than talent I suspect.

Just more of the same top 20 mundane garbage for the general public to singalong to on Radio 1 and for kids to dance to at their birthday parties.

There's been hundreds of them before her and there'll be a hundred more after. Nothing to see (listen to) here, move on.

catchy pop still requires talent... there is plenty of competition - she is a song writer/musician too and has been around for a decade part of which was in another genre so hardly just some manufactured act either

She is very clued up on every issue this thread has talked about so far.

As a female celebrity, having your body picked over, in a way that doesn’t happen for male celebrities—how do you deal?

I refuse to buy into these comparisons, because you don’t see it happening to men. All you seem to see is “Which New Mother Is Sexier?” “Who’s the Hotter Mama?” “Who’s Got The Better Booty?” If we continue to show young girls that they are being compared to other girls, we’re doing ourselves a huge disservice as a society.

and

Does it annoy you when people say you don’t write your own songs, or that someone else is pulling the strings of your career?

I haven’t heard any of the people I respect in the music industry or in journalism, saying that they think I don’t write my own songs. I think, when I put out Speak Now, which was my third album, and I decided I was just going to write it entirely on my own, to me that was enough of a statement. I felt like I could move on from that. I felt like I had proved my point. That was when I felt free to collaborate with whoever I wanted, because if you actually listen to the music, you can tell that the lyrics are written by the same person. And it’s not a ghostwriter. It’s not some weird, you know—everyone’s got those weird Shakespeare theories that someone else did all his stuff for him. Not to ever compare yourself to Shakespeare. But people need to poke holes in things because of their own stuff. It’s not about me.

Lol, you are one of those :D

She has been around since she was 15. If she has another 10 years, that's 20 years. Much longer than a lot of artist could ever dream of being at the top.

I wondered when you'd pop up! :D

Are you going to argue that she is more talented than Jimi Hendrix like last time and when challenged on it strangely not be able to back up any of you points. ;)

No you didn't but you didn't address the points and you did say she was more talented.

It's hard to argue with someone about the subject of talent when

1 - it's not only about guitar playing skills. I never said she is the greatest guitar player or the greatest dancer or performer or singer. She is not the greatest in any of those.

2 - they are from totally different era, society, technology and music

3 - Swift has more talent than just playing guitars. Did Hendrix ever manage to run 4 world tours by the age of 25?

How do you measure talent? Is it the ability of doing pentatonic scales with your teeth?

Well crafted pop songs. Not my thing but obviously has some talent in that area.

As for looks, attractive but extremely plain and boring. Don't get what people go crazy over. No curves to her.

I was referring to these in particular;

So you really think in 100 years people are going to compare Shake it All Out with Purple Haze as equivalent in their contribution to the progression of music.

She's successful, she got talent at what she does, she's well organised and media savvy but raw music talent she's not even in the same league. Sorry but Jimi Hendix inspired a generation of guitarists and every generation after. He re-wrote the technique and methods to play an instrument.

It's enough to like a performer without comparing your enjoyment (for whatever reason) with actual real music talent.

She has a poor vocal range, her intonation and actual pitch control are often poor, her tone has no real richness or vibrancy to it, non existent vibrato, etc. I have young kids I've had to see her way more than I'd like. If you can demonstrate to me where she demonstrates those sort of qualities then I'd be happy to agree because I've never seen her do that but I have seen great singers do that. As for her song-writing the writing again is catchy but simplistic there is no subtle or deep phrasing in there. She is popular she isn't that talented. Nothing wrong in that but there is in calling something it is quite clearly not.

I've never said anything about her guitar playing her actual live singing voice. Find me an example of where she uses:

Greater than 2 octave range
Accurate pitch control
Accurate and appropriate intonation
Rich tone with vibrancy and vibrato
etc

You know the things good vocalists can do. Should be easy for you to find that as she is so "talented". ;)

You also mentioned she doesn't use her image like other "stars":

Shaking booty - Check
Cheerleader Outfit - Check
Crotch shot - Check
Boobs shot - Well she tried her best.

Dressed in lingerie - Check
Legs akimbo - Check

Now that is in the same league as say Wrecking Ball but it is displaying sexualised imagery and I don't really care that it does. Fine by me.

Which is fine. What I am saying is she obviously has talent, she seems like and comes across as a decent person, she is insanely hot, and of course you obviously really like her! So leave it at that let's appreciate her for what she is rather than making her out to be something she isn't!

You missed the point about those 2 videos.

The irony is that they are made on purposed to rebut your points and make fun about people thinking of her that way.

As for the vocalist, I already said she isn't the greatest singer, as for songs longevity, it doesn't matter what I think, only history can tell.

p.s. I don't really like her new album, I like about 3 songs off there. Much prefer her earlier stuff. Clean is the best track on 1989, not Shake it Off.

Those legs... her body is simply heavenly. Face is a tad overworked though, doesn't look natural in those photos. While I am sure she is intelligent, she did come across as pretty shallow at the last Brit awards and I imagine being friends with her is a fickle thing unless your name is Ed Sheeran.

Cant stand the girl.

She walks around as though the whole place should be looking at her, and seems like a right pompus cow.

More importantly, she has zero curves - has a body like a 14 year old boy, and wouldn't know cool if it slapped her in that smiley little face ;)

I give her <10 years before she implodes and does a Britney.

If you cannot spell pompous correctly when dissing someone who is probably about 10x more intelligent and 100x more talented than you are, then that is an instant fail of epic proportions.

EDIT -

LMAO at one of those Daily Mail comments:

Two places Taylor should be: On a brass pole or on my face, but can we please get her off the radio?

:D

And she does that by doing that does she. Why doesn't she using her songwriting skills you keep mentioning to rebuke them? ;)
