Hi all,

I'm thinking of replacing my Samsung 32" LCD 720p TV (LE32R87BDX), which is 5 years old. I have decided to go up a size, so am looking at 37" LED models but am finding it quite hard to compare them. Previously you can get a good idea of the screen quality from things like response time, contrast ratio and so forth but a lot of these details are not listed any more on the manufacturers website? I take it they are not applicable with LED compared to LCD?

I have found two models below which both look good to me, but any thoughts or ways of finding out how good they are would be appreciated. I'm looking at a budget of around £450-500 & maybe getting a sound bar as well. I have the Humax Freesat HD+ box so won't be using the DTV input, just HDMI for Xbox 360 and PS3.

Samsung UE37ES5500 ~ £475 with 5 year warranty
Panasonic TX-L37E5B ~ £500 with 5 year warranty

Thanks in advance.

Many major manufacturers moved away from 37" screen sizes in 2012 favouring the jump from 32" to 40".

There are few about though, as you say technical specs are limited.

http://panasonic.net/ is the Global Pana website and often has more detail than the UK one.

Having looked at that size whilst i was on the hunt for a new panel, i found that 40" and 42" panels are usually cheaper. (The panasonic E5B being one of those cases)

Hmm yeah looking at one place now, they do 6 in 37" and 16 in 40" and they can be had for the same sort of price, i.e. £500.

I'm guessing I can't go too far wrong with a decent make, such as Panasonic or Toshiba?

LED is just a backlight technology, they are still essentially LCD displays, no idea why they no longer publish response times and such any more though.

Well I went for the Samsung 37" and very happy, it is stunning and much better quality screen than the old one :)
