Thoughts on this £1000 build?

You can get a Antec kuhler 620 for the same money and it will give a much better "minimalist" look

Notice I have removed 1 of the 1TB drives, old misses just told me she has a spare WD 1TB lying on her desk I can have :)

So decided to go for 8GB of memory instead hehe.

I understand what you mean about the sli, and I am not going to disagree with you on the single display.

But I have always enjoyed having sli and the performance it gives.

As I said, it will save me a few pennies and then give me performance for my tasty 30" :)

fair enough.

Also, going back to the memory discussion... Think the extra £30 on another 4GB is really worth it then?

Repeating that back sounds silly, £30 for 4GB DDR3 is a bloody bargain lol.

IMO, yes. And it's only £20 extra for the Kingstons, which are great sticks. They do go 9-9-9-24 1600mhz @ 1.5V. I'm sure the Corsairs do as well and on sandy, the lower the memory voltage the better. Plus they will look the part with that mobo. Again, imo, under £50 for 8GB is more impressive than under £30 for 4GB :) You can't have too much memory.

The H2O will also look great with that setup, and it's a good cooler. There are other simpler (and cheaper) alternatives. You can also delay buying the cooler and stay stock for a while if this starting to sound costly.

Read up on the problems people are having with those OCZ drives. I'm not up to date so they may have fixed their gremlins. I have a Vertex 2E, and have no complains. It's mostly related to the new sandforce firmwares.

I prefer the M4, as it gets far less issues, even though the write speed is not as good. Although write speed don't matter nearly as much as read speeds for OS drives and game drives.

Been reading, it seems firmware is the main culprit. Will simply just update firmware as a lot have said before installing windows, solves 99% of the issues apparently.

im all for sli, but my thinking is that if you get a single 580 now for the same price, in a few months you can get another 580 for sli and blow the 560's away. if you invest in the 560s now and want more juice later you will take a big hit on selling them.

You are 100% correct, but I made up my mind :( The next upgrade won't be for a while yet and I simply cant afford £800 on the 580 over the next 6 month as apposed to £350 for the next 12 months...

580's now are £350< especially on the mm most sub £300 now

Edit: new palit 580 £290 on the mm with warranty/receipt

I meant as in total...

So say I decide to upgrade in a year. it's either spend £700 (for arguments sake) on 2 580's or £350 on 2 560's. Either way it will be a while till I upgrade so may as well go for the cheaper as I am not made of money and I will still see a great performance from the cards.

Cool, good luck with the build.

Cheers mate :)

Will update thread when I get all the kit.
