Afternoon all,

My old rig is long overdue replacement in its entirety and the only thing I'd like to carry across is maybe the 7.1 sound card and BeQuiet 1000W PSU.

At the moment I don't really want to spend more than £500, with the aim to shortly add a £200 graphics card to it (maybe a mid-spec R9 of some kind). Originally I was set on a mini ITX build but I don't think it really offers me anything beneficial.

For some curious reason I find the new AMD Kaveri 7850K very appealing but as I'll be adding a discrete graphics card it seems a bit of a moot point. I intend to use the machine for a mix of tasks, including basic image editing, some light video editing potentially, and gaming. Help me avoid buying a PS3 :D

Here's what I'm thinking of so far - any feedback or advice appreciated.

Would invest in a more overclock friendly set up, if not to overclock yourself but for the re-sale value and ease. If you are unlikely to clock or sell it on down the line, then my point is without point!

^^ That sounds good stulid, looks like it might last longer. Any reason for opting for the Seagate instead of the WD that I need to be aware of?

Duly noted Avenged7Fold!

Only thats it cheaper. I'm never too concerned that one HDD manufacture maybe more or less unreliable than the other, they are all big well known names.

My last few HDD's have been Seagates and they have been spinning along just fine.

I like the top-mounted ports on that case Danny, be great considering I have my case under the desk. I'll have a good look at that. I only swing to Lian Li by default as I've had one for ten years now :D

Thanks chaps. Just to add some closure, I ordered a combination of the above and it arrived a few days ago.

I only got around to starting work on it today, though, and much to my annoyance I found that my Be Quiet PSU uses a different plug that doesn't match that of the Lian Li's internal PSU cable (the PSU is front-mounted in the case and there's a cable that runs from front to rear).

Unfortunately I didn't have anything that could be made to fit so I've gone and bought a modular Corsair 750w PSU with a matching socket. I'll sell the Be Quiet PSU, as it's an older flagship jobby, and that should help offset some of the difference at least.

Hopefully it'll be up and running soon. Very, very impressed with the case though - some lovely attention to detail.
