Thoughts on this build?

Hi guys,

I just purchased some bits for an sff build for university and wanted some opinions. I know it would have been wise to ask this BEFORE purchasing, but I'm the type of guy who cuts first and measures second (how crazy am I?). Plus, I wanted to get my order in for Saturday delivery. It'll be for browsing, uni work and some gaming. Spec. is as follows:

  • Intel i3 3220
  • Asus P8-H77-I motherboard
  • 8 GB OCUK memory
  • Sapphire 7850
  • Corsair F3 120 GB (already owned)
  • Silverstone FT03 Mini in silver
  • Silverstone SFX 450W power supply
  • Samsung SE-S208AB/TSBS external optical drive
  • Windows 7 64-bit

I was toying with getting the Lian-Li PC-Q11 and a regular ATX power supply, but this probably would have made it awkward to build and keep tidy, plus the FT03 looks coooool.

I may put up some pictures of everything before and after, but the temptation to rip open the sealed boxes like a little boy at Christmas may get the better of me, and I'll end up building it and forgetting all about this thread! What is it with new computer parts?

Anyway, thoughts anyone?

Cheers.

Pics of the build mate, some of the case would be nice, been thinking on getting one for a mITX build I've planned!

Thanks.

Will do.

On the subject of the case, would I be able to remove the slot loading drive from my 2008 MacBook and use it in the FT03? Will it just be a regular laptop drive or will Apple have had their way with it? I didn't really want to spend £53 on the Silverstone drive when I probably won't use it much and you can't use the eject button.

Sorry, but I don't follow

Look at the top of page then where it says motherboard.

That is the motherboard I bought. I did actually buy everything in the spec. In fact, I'm posting this message on the computer now :)

I am using that motherboard as well in my spare pc, only issue I have it does not like 1600mhz memory with the G530 cpu.

Edward78,

I see what you mean. It must be a mistake on Lian Li's part. I got the Silverstone FT03 Mini anyway.

For anyone who wants photos, I'll try and upload some later tonight. My camera is playing up right now  Just be aware that my cable tidying isn't complete as I just wanted to get everything up and running.

Also, for anyone who doesn't like the bundled software (apart from essential drivers) you get with motherboards, you may want to re-consider with regard to Asus AI Suite II. I was having problems with fan noise, but when I installed this program, all was sorted. It also allows you to control fan speed or even switch fans off, as well as track voltages and temperatures. It also has a GPU Boost function which... did nothing. :p
