I have got the stage where I need a decent bag for my kit now. Initially I only had my a200 with the kit lens, but now I have got another lens, a rake of filters and a few other bits and pieces. So I thought I should get a decent bag to protect my gear rather than chuck it into a normal sportsbag.

I was thinking of getting one of these 'National Geographic Earth Explorer Midi Shoulder Bag'. But not having seen one or used one was not sure what they were like and if it would hold all the gear I have comfortably.

A bit of background info on what / where I would take it

I mainly do walkabouts in cities, countryside and some footy matches. The gear I have in total is:

a200
18-70 kit lens
70-300 sigma
shutter release remote
filters x 4
additional flash cards x 2
spare battery

and of course the personal crap you take with you like mobile phone, packets of smokes, couple of books (understanding exposure and the tom Ang book) to use as reference in case I get stuck trying to get the right exposure/ shot

I had a look at some of the back pack style bags but they seem to be really bulky. I would also use the bag to take my gear on the plane when I am out an about as I do a lot of travel for work

couldnt give you feedback on it, but fwiw i use a Crumpler Pretty Boy XL4000 and its great, fits 2 x mem cards, A200+kit lens, 70=300, and a 50mm prime. Bit of a squeeze with it all in, but wworks. Personally didnt want bigger thatn that, and i liked it 'cos it doesnt look like a camera bag.

Cheers Wedge

can you take that bag on a plane or will they get a bit nervous if its jam packed full of camera gear ? I got a certain 'look' about me that automatically make people think I got a back pack full of c4 on my back, which is why I was opting for a shoulder type / neutral looking bag like the nation geographic one

A certian look?? I dont know what you mean lol :p :D

Yer you can take it on a plane, but with 'your look' id go for the crumpler, it is a far more neutral/stylish bag, i would have bought the crumpler had i not got the Hama one for peanuts.

Ps. Say hey to Longpot for me ;)
