Thoughts on this MircoSD memory card?

new card arrived today.

Hmm, my initial thoughts are that it (Samsung class 6) doesnt appear to be any faster than my sandisk class 4 card but I will test them both and post comparative benchies :)

Ok. Here are the results of my benchmarking. I used a USB microSD adapter (Sandisk branded) on all three of the tested cards. I'll let the results do the talking but ultimately I'm not overly impressed by the performance of the Samsung card, when compared to the "lower" class Sandisk.

awwwwww, CURSE IT!

:p

Ok so the Samsung is water/shock/magnet proof. I will bare that in mind next time I go swimming in magnet-infested waters...with my phone. :p

Lol :p

That's also one reason I went for the samsung card, due to the protection.

Well it should be faster than my 2 year old un branded SD card anyway (I hope :p). As long as it is reliable and doesn't fail after like 1 week of use.

EDIT:

NVM, got the links for pics now.

Thanks :)

- anyone know why it's not letting me use image tags or use the button to add these images? or do the forums just hate me :D

Yup, sorry but the forums just hate you........

oj :p

Should try uploading the images to tinypic/imageshack and then use the image code.

BTW, my samsung card has just arrived as well :D

Also what is the name of that software that you used to test the cards, thanks :)

the software I used to benchmark is free and is called Crystaldiskmark - you can google it, and I think it's crystalmark.com or something for the correct place to download it from.

Regarding the images, I had tried hosting the images on an alternative site too, and renamed them .JPG .jpg made them gifs and pngs... none worked :) maybe they just allow images from those certain uploadable sites. I dont have an account with them and cba tbh. ~Oh well.

Ok, thanks, will download it and test my current 2GB class 2 one now and post some screenshots once done.

Hmmm, that's weird. When I upload screenshots I just use the sniping tool (windows 7) to copy the image and then save it (JPEG) and just upload it to tinypic (don't have an account either).

Lol, the benchmark is taking forever to do, like more than 30 minutes, so far on the first bar it is 5.809 MB/s, going to stop it now.

Think it's safe to say that the samsung micro SD will be better than my current card :p :D

EDIT:

Second part is done now, a whopping 3.404MB/s :D, don't think anyone can beat mine :p

I'm still annoyed though, since the 8gb sandisk can be bought at the same place for £8.49 - sorry that's for a class 2... but Im sure the class 4 ones can be found for cheaper than that samsung card. and they have a high shock rating too, in fact better than the shock rating on the samsung IIRC.

Correction £9.49 :p (well last week it was when I checked, that's if it's the same place where I got mine from :p that your talking about)

I had a look, but couldn't find it any where at all (8GB class 4) for less than £14, also couldn't really see that many sites that sold a class 4 8GB sandisk card anyway :( from a trusted/good site that is.

Saying that, I would say that the samsung class 6 one would be faster than the sandisk 8GB class 2, which was the other one that I was looking at (only by a bit though).

There's a one day sale of sandisk class 4 16gb for 13.99 which are a steal IMO.

FUUUUUUUUUUU

:(

O well, the one I got today, should suit/do me fine for a couple of years I reckon.

BTW:

I am currently on 2.1 using app2sd, where you have to format part of the SD card to store the apps on, so how do I transfer these apps over, without loosing any data etc. and with no factory reset?

Take it I will need to use a backup program and if yes, which one is better my backup pro or titanium?

Thanks.

EDIT:

Also SqualidChimp they are £8.49 now :p, must have just decreased in price sometime in the last few days.

Can you trust the cards you get from the "jungle"?

Since they aren't sold by the company themselves just traders. In that regard surely you are no more likely to get a genuine card than you are from an auction site

Some...not all.

I just looked on the site. Sometimes it takes you to the market sellers instead and you have to click on see all New ones and you will see the real deal from the rainforest site. The site is shockingly bad.

Just thought I'd resurrect this with the news that my almost 3 year old sandisk 8gb microSD died a couple of days ago.

RIP in silicon heaven. Faith in indestructible sandisk irreversibly shaken. Need therapy. :(

On the other hand, that's what uber-sandisk warranty is for. With sensible backups its not too much hassle, and sandisk are collecting by UPS in the next few days. :)

FYI

Class does not determine the maximum speed of the card, just the minimum it is guaranteed to do.

As such, a Class 2 card could perform at max speed the same as the min speed of a Class 4.

I assume the postage is coming out of your own pocket?
When I requested for a replacement, they said I had to send it to Czech Republic. Working out the cost (postage+recorded), it wasn't worth it when I can buy a new card plus I don't have to wait a few weeks.
