Thoughts on using end of life/unsupported Android versions?

Does anyone know much about using old Android phones, security wise?

Namely 5.1.1 which stopped support in 2015.

The cost of phones for the return in technology is really really bad for, well myself mostly. I'm still on my 3rd smartphone. Really i just want to use basic webpages, and google maps, hence the resilience to upgrade, (or i should say spend money). I also like to drop my phone, and the cheaper phones seem to be more resilient screen wise.

Custom Rom?

Have thought about it. Was hoping someone would jump in with their experiences, but seems like a gamble on new phones. But i should really take a deeper look, as this current phone's hardware ain't all bad.

Does security matter that much on a phone?

Given your usage its even less important.

Good point. But am very curious, which is the most sensible option.
