Thoughts on what the prices of the 460 will drop to?

So the 560 Ti is out and people have mentioned a drop in prices of the 460.

Any ruff ideas?
Because I was going to order a 460 768mb, but if the prices will be dropping quite a bit surely I should wait a couple of weeks and maybe pick up a 1GB for the same price?

I'm not sure the 460 will be discontinued, since the 560 is more a 470 replacement.
However if they do, we might see drops in the other ATI cards to replace the 460 price spot...

There will be a replacement in terms of price/performance for the 460 of course - it's a very profitable segment - but the 460 itself is going to be replaced, i'd guess at a cut down 560 branded as 550.

Was it a 1GB model?

Unfortunately not, It was a decent upgrade from my 260 and i cant think of any worth while games i have had to make sacrifices on at 1920 x 1080.

Spending £350+ on graphics cards always seemed a bit crazy to me. Oh noes i cant have as much AA as you! who cares i dont stand and look at textures all day i play the games :D

As long as your card lets you play your games with MOST of the settings on max you cant complain really

You have it all wrong.

The 460 isnt being discontinued and is staying at its current £150ish price point. The GTX 560 is filling the 470's price point ar around £200.

The GTX 460 is already a cut down 560, or rather that a 560 is a fully unlocked 460.

Which will be rebranded as a 550, likely with the new production process. The 460 and 560 won't exist together longer than stock lasts, it's too confusing.

I suspect that the there will be a cut down GTX560 which is equivalent to the overclocked GTX460 1GB cards and this will compete with the HD6870 1GB.

This will probably be the GTX560 non-TI.

However, the HD6850 1GB and HD5770 1GB will probably be targeted by the GTS550. This will be a GTS450 with all 240 shaders enabled, the full 192 bit memory interface activated and higher clockspeeds.

This is because the GF106/GF116 GPU at around 240MM2 can compete better with the 166MM2 GPU found in the HD5770 and the 255MM2 GPU found in the HD6850 and HD6870.

The GPU found in the GTX460 and GTX560 is supposed to be around 367MM2.

The GTX 550 is already listed among some table from Nvidia, its a 192 Shader replacement for the GTX 450, but with higher clocks and maybe a few other architectural change.

There are no plans yet to make the GTX 460 EOL as the 470 and 480 have been.
