Thoughts on X1900GT (RX)

Hi all.

I have seen one of these available on another site for around £180 delivered and it seems a good deal.

I understand what this card is 36 pixel processors (12 pipes) 8 vertext shaders etc but I am still unsure whether it would be worth it.

Judging by current benchmarks it seems to be around 5-10% slower than a X1800XT @ stock however what appeals to me is that it will probably be faster with upcoming shader intensive games.

I am assuming they are the same to overclock as the X1800XT ( I had one a while back) however do they have the dynamic voltage control?

Is it worth the extra £20 or so over the X1800XT that OCUK have got (Although its a good deal I would prefer to have something different tbh).

Can I have your thoughts and opinions on the card.

Rest of my pc spec: (if required)

X2 3800+ @ 2.6
DFI Lanparty SLI-D
1gig Geil platinum ram
Decent 450W PSU (coped fine with a heavily overclocked X1800XT 512mb).

Also as another option I was looking at either a 7900GT (although put off by the failure rates) or SLI'ing 7600GT's (which was my first thought) however now seeings this X1900 I am a little confused.

Cheers all!

since you have an SLI board id go for a WORKING :D 7900GT(also heard of a 7900GS on the horizon...) and add another later...

That was another albeit more costly option. Thing is (something I forgot to put in my original post) I only game at 1280x1024 or 1440x900 so I have no requirement for 79GT's SLI'd.

maybe not today, maybe not tommorrow, but some day when games become more demanding you'd wish you had bought that additional 7900... hahahahahahahaha! :p

Considering i use my graphics cards to play games with. I usually stick them in my pc & have no real cause to stare at them all day, all i am usually after is the card that will give the best performance for a great price. Having said that the X1800XT 256 is defintely the card i would get out of those you mentioned above. Great price versus performance, reliable & highly overclockable, with great IQ. I dont think i would spend more to get less just to have something different.

I do think you are right about the X1900GT by the way. I think it will likely be helped in future games with the larger number of shaders that it has.

This is pretty much why I am stuck between the two. Having had an X1800XT in the past I know it was quick for the games I played but then again so was the 7800GTX I had for a while, now roughly saying the X1900GT would be on par with the 7800GTX whilst offering the possibility of being faster than the X1800XT in the future means I am leaning a bit that way.

Plus its something new to play with.

Hmmmm Still umming and ahhhing.
