Hi Folks,
Trying to slim-down the number of devices in the house currently, as well as getting the PS3 out of the lounge and into a separate room (thus making it more available for playing & less in use as a media player by the misses), and wondering whether this is likely to work out well, or disastrously?
The (possible) plan:
HP Proliant N36L (currently working out at £120) - Athlon II Neo 1.3ghz dual core.
+ Low-profile GT210 card with HDMI out (inc Audio)
+ 8gb DDR3 Ram
+ 4 x 1or2TB Hard Disks
Running:
VMWare ESXi
+ 1 VM - FreeNas 8
+ 1 VM - XBMC (believe it can "take over" the video card successfully thru ESXi?)
Such that FreeNas serves up a ZFS/RaidZ NFS share, usable by both the "machine-local" XBMC VM as well as other devices on the LAN (Macs, PCs, etc).
So - your thoughts please? likely to work? setup to fail? do you have similar experience to share?
Thanks,
G.
