Is it better to mount cpu coolers before or after mounting the board onto the case m/board plate. I have always done the latter but i alway think that it could snap the board as you tie the cooler onto it... just really asking for advice and thoughts about this.

I've always mounted the cooler beforehand. Its always a pain reaching the top Mobo screws, especially with my Alpenfohn K2. But then again, with the spring screws I never like seeing the bend on the motherboard. I can support it a bit holding the backplate area but I would prefer full support.

I've done it both ways with no detriment.

With the m/b already mounted I just lay my case on it's side. Pretty much the same as mounting it with the board out of the case, just with a little less space to work with.

With a large cooler and backplate, I always fitted it before putting the mobo into the case. This was using a TRUE 120 cooler and also with earlier athlon cpu's which were often without a heatspreader.

The phanteks fitting system makes it easier to do afterwards as you attach two mounting plates to the mobo and backplate first.
