The FB group has about 700-800 members. Someone on there has said approx 20,000 - 30,000 people have been fined (which I'm not sure can be true).
Many people given multiple fines, often ten or more, facing loss of their licenses, financial hardship etc etc.

TfL is alleging a "third party" was responsible for the installation of a 50mph sign on a section of the A20 which has been tempoarily reduced to 40mph, something to do with flooding..

I believe that legally, the people with fines will win their cases at court because motorists can only be expected to follow the speed limit shown on a sign, they are not expected to query whether that sign was installed by an unauthorised third party.

Even just assuming 700 people have the fines, that will overwhelm the court system and I suspect they will have to cancel them.
Was on BBC News SE but scant mention elsewhere, despite this being unprecedented, and a very unorthodox situation.

Sounds like it's been wrong for a few weeks, say 2 weeks, average 2,000 people/day (it looks quite a busy road, 2 lane dual-carriageway, so that's probably a low estimate!). 20-30k is easily realistic if most of them aim for the 50mph

I did wonder on a similar topic where you'd stand if you got pinged in one of the new 20mph limits that a local freedom fighter has spray painted over all the signs.

Had the same issue on A10 north of Littleport not sure if any drivers were fined since cameras have seemed to be off for many years,
but the road, for several months, said 40mph, whilst, blind drivers nav systems still recommending 60mph,

council have now removed these rogue signs.

Sign isn't visible, so the fine won't stand if you appeal.
