THQ humble bundle

Me too. One of the few remaining big publishers that don't disappoint.

They own excellent games and epic game studios like Relic. They're going down either way, I'd make sure the employees get their salaries paid first.

Darksiders was a immensly enjoyable game, a perfect balance of old ps2 type fun and i am hope metro 2033 will not dissapoint in its atmosphere, i dont really care about graphics its the atmosphere and playability i like.

Not sure what they're intentions are for that, as it's regularly in the Steam sales for £3.75.

I think its to promote the Metro sequel and get some free branding for the game!

But THQ are having some rather large financial issues and I think without the likes of the Humble Bundle you wouldn't be seeing a Metro sequel coming from THQ.

THQ have been making great games over the past few years (Saints Row anyone?!) But have had some real stinkers as well (UDraw?!) but overall most of their titles aren't AAA ones and when they are like Saints Row 3 IMO they are very much sleeper hits that don't get hit with massive pre-orders and are usually bought on the cheap in sales.

Hopefully they can have a better lucky next year and maybe make some fairly successful next-gen launch titles. Seems to work for Ubisoft!

There are a lot of THQ titles that fall into the "wtf is this" catagory a few more like darksiders and saints row would bump them up, i would love all the same of darksiders in a different setting , it cant be that hard to do... post apocolypse is making a lot of money all the time now.. i'd like THQ to go grand and possibly produce something along the lines of fallout but in thier personal way, it would make money.

They get drawn in by gimmicks and it lets them down , bratz ,cars, big motha truckas, brother bear and many more all from films and kiddies stuff or just plain bad ideas from the start, who really wants to play a game about driving trucks .... its not going to make money is it !

I usually pay $20 for humble bundles. I give the charities An equal share of $10 and pub/dev and humble bundle people an equal share of the 2nd $10.

Works for me.

You can't even imagine how wrong you are. Truck driving games have always been pretty popular and done on low budget, so profit margins on them are high.

Euro Truck Simulator 2 is very successful, wait until it comes up on Steam and it will top the charts for a little while. It already did in retail.

Those games do actually make money and can make a fair bit! But THQ are a bit crazy and invest in them like they are going to be the next Guitar Hero/Wii then they fall flat on their face and they are left with a massive development and research bill that has to be paid. I think the biggest think that THQ are still paying the price for was the uDraw tablet, it would have cost a load to research, it was multi-platform, the WiiU was announced at a similar time of it launching, it sold hardly any copies as you could imagine leaving them with the logistics of having warehouses/retailers with loads of unwanted uDraw tablets :p

I would love to see THQ push the money towards some of their killer games but I think for the next year they should really be playing damage control as Saints Row and Darksiders almost have enough branding to carry themselves now and won't need a massive push on the advertising front as they are games designed around gamers rather than the COD/Halo etc which try to appeal more to mass market.

I have played games my entire life and accross all platforms, i have never ever once noticed a truck driving simulator be very popular, people dont talk about them, there are no adverts, im sure that there are people who buy them... but top the charts ...

It has nice graphics and maybe its just not my cup of tea but it looks increadibly boring...i was not commenting on just the one game... they seem to concentrate their efforts on games that people dont buy new its always the games you pick up later in the sales... how does that maximise profit ???

You are seeing it from a gamers point of view as Krugga said, those games cost nothingggggggggg to produce compared to say the new Metro game so the profit margin on them is crazy, similar to why most devs produce sub-par IOS games, they aren't going to top the chart but profit wise they do pretty damn well!

I think euro Truck simulator 2 must have made obscene amounts of money compared to what their expectations were! Again the problem with THQ and their subpar games I think they invest too heavily in them so its almost impossible for them to make a return.

If you base your opinion on your own, however limited, experience, than be it, but please don't pretend that you can get involved in any serious discussion by doing that. ETS2 has topped the charts in Germany (the largest European PC games market) and briefly in the UK at Game, I doubt it's still up there, though. 18 Wheels of Steel have always been popular games, despite being quite a niche genre. THQ had a try at taking a dig at that market and it's simple to understand why.

Yeah, well, that's just like, your opinion, man.

But the other games, however hit or miss you might think they are, might make them some money in the short run and keep their studios busy. Whether you like it or not, big games aren't made in regular intervals and between the serious sales, the company has to make some money. I'd think they have better analysts than you when it comes to figuring out what's profitable and what's not.
