Threadbare carpets at thresholds

Hi my parents live in a new build house, think it's 4 years old. Where some of the threshold covers are the carpet is fraying. What's the normal cause if this? I notice the threshold is lower than the carpet so it is more exposed but I'm surprised it's worn so quick. I only ask as my new carpet is lower at the thresholds and don't want it to wear prematurely. Off the top of head all I can think of is catch it with the vacuum (I think they have a sebo and it's quite aggressive) or catching it with slippers, they wear ones that just go round the front so they tend to scuff the floor a lot. Anyone's thoughts appreciated.

We had expensive carpet and same thing happened. Turned out it was my mum battering the threshold with the Dyson as she hoovered upstairs. Carpet fitter had a right mare making it good.

That's my concern as we went for thick underlay, and the threshold covers have grippers in so are quite low. I've got some spare that I might swap in that sit over the top but don't have grippers on.
