Hey,

Moved down to London a few weeks back, and my house mate and I have been too lazy to sort out a proper broadband connection  at the moment I've just been tethering with my T-Mobile Pulse, which is ok for emails/browsing etc but the 3GB data allowance is too skinny for much more.

I was thinking about getting the 3 Mifi deal, which is £22pm for 18mo with 15GB data usage. I can find out what the reception is like by getting a 3 PAYG SIM, but I was wondering what the actual MiFi router is like. Is it reliable, with good throughput etc? Does it cope well with 5 devices concurrently?

Cheers,

Su

I've borrowed a friends and can safely say that it didn't like torrents at all. I ended up using it via usb instead. It'll probably cope with 5 devices connected to it for normal browsing but the range isn't exactly great, 10ft at most.

Oh dear, 10ft is a bit pathetic!

Thought I might be able to keep it in the bedroom and use wireless in the lounge. I wonder if maybe a dedicated 3G router might be the way forward?

Cheers,

Su

Any particular reason why you're looking at a 3G connection rather than just signing up for DSL or cable? 3G stuff isn't exactly good value in home broadband terms - it will always be dearer than equivalent fixed BB. Even BT Broadband would give you more data for your buck, probably with higher speeds and much lower latency! And you're tied in for 18 months with the 3G anyway, so DSL isn't going to be any worse.

Not seen over 2Mb/s when I do a speedtest with my MiFi on my iPad. It can just stop loading things for a period of time... its good for when your on the move and stuff. Avg speed of probably 1.3

5devices.. can't see it going strong tbh.
Could never be a broadband replacement :p
