Three Little Holes

The three jack points on most sound cards pink, green and blue. AFAIK:

pink = mic

green = Main/right

blue = left

Normally the blue is disabled unless you change the settings. I want to be able to use a headset for skype/IM and speakers at other times.

Is it possible to plug the audio of the headset into the blue jack and whenever I want a 'private' conversation just to turn off my desk speakers or am I on a one way trip to tard city?

Well blue is normally line in (AUX_IN) for most sound cards, I know you can have multiple outputs with Realtek cards but it's done in software. Depending on your soundcard it may be possible.
