Going to stop buying papers and get my lunch break entertainment from my iPod Touch instead. Just need to buy a mifi device. I've been doing some reading and Three's offers seem to be the best. Will go down to Carphone Warhouse and sign up for a 1 month PAYG.

Anything I should know before pulling the trigger?

If you upgrade to an Android phone, you can WiFi tether from that. No need to carry round a third bit of equipment and another mobile contract.
As far as I'm aware, PAYG data is still ludicrously overpriced, I presume you meant a one month contract with data allowance.

Interesting. I am getting bored of my Blackberry Curve. Whats the best Android phone going? Budget £300 btw.

If you don't mind rooting it and putting on a custom ROM (very easy and plenty of guides out there), get a Motorola Defy, can be picked up for under £250 PAYG, great specs, rock solid construction (built to withstand multiple drops, and even brief submersion).

Otherwise an HTC Desire is a decent choice in that budget. Unlike the Motoblur skin, HTC's Sense skin is much more tolerable (and even preferable to stock Android!)

If you can get hold of a Desire Z for £300, you can have a nice sliding keyboard too, which is nice if you're used to a blackberry.

The Samsung Galaxy S is nice too, but apparently the GPS is a bit flaky, so I'd go for a Desire first.

One thing to bear in mind since you're accustomed to a blackberry is that once you start realising the smartphones potential, data usage uses battery like mad. As long as you charge it overnight you're fine but you won't get two days heavy use from a single charge.
