I'm with t-mobile at the moment, enjoying their web'n'walk service. But i can't really ignore a great offer with three, my only gripe would be i'd have a 3.5g phone and an internet thats useless defeating the object. I'd rather pay more in the long run and be able to do what i want.

So can anyone give me any insight into the inner workings of threes internet experience?

The phone in question is the 6120 i've found a nice little deal albeit cashback involved which would give me 600mins 400 texts 50 video mins and 50 mms a month and the whole (12 month contract) would only cost me £135 thats with the phone for free :)

Which phone do you have at the moment? I assume by useless internet on the 3.5G handset you can't unlock it and bring it to three's network?

Either way, I'm with three on a standard tarrif with the X-Series addon and love it. It's essentially the same sort of idea as Web'n'Walk - You pay them a fiver each month and as long as you don't use more than 1GB that month you're good to go using it on web, email, downloads etc. You get a Skype client with a fair usage allowance of 80 hours (yes, hours) per month and unlimited MSN messenger

If you buy the £10 X-Series gold addon you also get access to Slingbox and Orb streaming (80hrs per month limit) and can get a slingbox for free, too :D

The 6120 also looks like an amazing wee phone: http://youtube.com/watch?v=VrmO8c5VfaQ

Yeah, the phone is amazing, for its size too. 25% smaller and lighter than the n95, granted no GPS or 5mp camera (but i don't want them anyway!). It weight 89g and its a superb smartphone...

Anyway i've seen the x-series thing, but is that the actual internet or their walled garden verion of the internet? Can you search anything on there? Or only use the yahoo search (or so it seems from what i've read) also downloading emails seems to cost too unless you buy *another* add on! Whats going on there!? I'm just worried i'll have a cool little phone but won't be able to use what i can at present with t-mobile, which is anything internet wise (ok minus skype and msn) upto 1gb a month fair usage again.

X-series gives you a proper internet connection, none of this restricted content nonsense thankfully. Honestly I reckon they advertise it as the "web with yahoo search" because they're being paid to do so - you can enter any URL into the browser and it'll work the same as web'n'walk, Vodafone's mobile web, etc. You can use google.com instead of yahoo if you like.

I don't know much about their email package cos I downloaded the GMail program and just use that instead :o

Yeah, with the X-Series Silver - you can use up to 1.5GB, you get a warning SMS, then at 2GB you get a "soft suspend." i.e. you can't use any more internet until your minutes are refreshed on your bill cycle. So 2GB of internet access for £5 on your mobile is a good deal.

I don't recommend using the Yahoo! Search, its not that good, however 3 now have partnered with Google, so you can select either the Google or Yahoo! Search as your default - or - as said before, just go directly to google.com/m for Google Mobile search.

Dust....wheres that deal! - May order! :p

Here Love that website for comparisons...

Thanks guys, it means i'd end up paying on average over the contract about £16 per month instead of £11 but sounds worth it. Can i phone up (india i know) and have bundles added and taken off easily like with t-mob?

Right i'm not convinced about Threes internet, had a browse around their shop today and played with their 6120. You have to do everything through their portal, or at least what i was doing i did. I asked the guy and i said if i get the silver x-series can i just browse the internet like normal, and have whatever i want as my homepage etc... He said i couldn't.

I'd rather get a worse deal of t-mob but with a more open internet for times when i need it...

i've used threes internet fine for the past year or so, using the built in browser on the k800i - entering addresses, or using opera mini.

be aware of 3's appalling customer service ;)

only had to deal with them once, to replace a broken handset. no problems at all. very helpful. they picked up my phone and the next day a brand new one arrived.

You must be one of the very very few lucky ones IMO

Yeah I'm not sure what the guy in the shop was on about. You can load the phone's web browser and enter any URL you can think of and can even set the homepage as you wish. If he meant that "Planet Three" garbage, I removed all shortcuts to that on day one.

I also recommend using Opera Mini. I prefer the way it handles the display of more complex sites like forums, news sites, etc

Yeah thats what he mentioned planet three, he said there was no way around it, i must say i was a little suspicious but wasn't allowed to play properly :p. Sounds promising. Opera mini is good i agree but i'll be using the default S60 browser from Feature Pack 1 it's even better. Can play flash integrated, amongst many other things :)
