Three SIM not working in tablet

I've got a 8.4 Tab S LTE model and popped my Three SIM, however data isn't working as it saying I'm not allowed to use this SIM in a tablet...

Surely I can use it in whatever I want?

The tablet has an earpiece and I can make calls fine with it so can I argue my case that I want it to work on this device? Say that it's my work phone?

Line are shut now so I'll have to ring tomorrow.

Is there an app (got root) that can fool the SIM into thinking it's in a phone rather than tablet?

Three don't allow you to use a phone SIM in tablets and they have categorised this device you are using as one. I am afraid there is not much that you can do.

Maybe the geniuses over at xda know a way to make the tab recognise itself as a different device when it says hello to 3 so the sim works.

If out of the box it's able to make and receive calls it should be classed as a phone and your sim should work, in which case you should be able to phone them up about it.
If not you're probably out of luck but let us know if you manage to get it working..

I suppose it depends on how 3 checks what device you have. On my Nexus 10 I was able to change the build.prop file to trick Google thinking it was a Nexus 5, just so I could claim the free mavity film a couple of weeks back, no idea if that will work for your Tab S.

Called Three and they're having none of it. Calls and texts work fine but data is blocked because it is a tablet and I'm likely to use the data more even though the tariff I have comes with unlimited data.

Unless you can find a way to change the IMEI (which is illegal BTW) there is nothing whatsoever that you or Three can do.

It's because the tariff has unlimited data, not 'even though'
If it were capped like EE's plans they wouldn't give two hoots, hence the tethering business where EE are still happy for you to use it up to your plan's data limit.

IMO they've drawn the line in the wrong place if your tablet is able to make calls and texts. I can see their reasoning for not working in dongles and the like.
