Went to the Supermoto event at Three Sisters race track today

First chance to try the 1dmII out properly in readiness for the BGP F1 in a couple of months. Im absolutely in love with this camera, the focus speed and accuracy using my 100-400L is massively improved over the 20D, and it wasnt slow then, the 8.5FPS is good, it makes it difficult to fire off just 1 shot, but its great for ensuring you capture the critical frame.

On with the photos, all link to slightly large shots. All are straight out of camera, resize and the odd slight crop, so levels etc are off on a few.

Cheers, I got some funny looks laying down on the pavement, stopping pedestrians, to get the fishes shot, I thought it looked strange.

Not absoultely pin sharp but you can't easily tell resized. It might be that resizing has let them down, who knows. I think they could do with a contrast/levels tweek.

Im hoping it was the lack of processing and the 2 lots of resizing that has caused that, I would really appreciate some feedback on any of the images in This Directory, Ive uploaded a few processed 100% crops and would like to know if they appear soft or acceptable. My eyes arent too good but they dont look too bad at all to me, if they are soft ive got the option of sending the lens and camera to Canon/CPS to be re-calibrated.

If you compare them to SDK's shots with the 20D + 100-400;

Like this full size shot is terribly soft for a 100-400 L. Something isn't right there.

That's true, could be that it's OOF?

But i don't think that the heavey jpeg compression and lack of PP in his resized shot helps the fact.

It could be a focus issue with the 1D. I don't really have any knowledge on this subject as my lenses and camera all focus fine. I've never looked into it. Do you have any examples before the 1D to check?

Ive just been checking my results again, and im sure its more me, than the camera, when it comes to the poorly focussed shots. Im really grateful for the time your taking to check these shots as well.

I think the way im processing them to try and retain a more natural colour and keep detail in the highlights and shadows is spoiling the sharpness, ive reprocessed using SDKs excellent image as a guide to contrast, ive also included the RAW files, which should so wether the images coming out of the camera are soft.

It was the vibrance, not saturation

I'll change it now

The processed shot does look a lot better than the original. Clears up the softness issue nicely.
